Not safe, so I left group Mobius

or tried to anyway, I'll get back to that in a minute. Don't get me wrong, in my mind Mobius has done a fantastic job keeping a lot of CMDR's free from grief, using a game feature not really intended for the current scale as demonstrated by recent events and also the reason why I started this thread. I've never been attacked in Mobius, and only a few times in Open, which is relatively safe, if you know how to handle yourself. It's been a while since I've been in Mobius, last time was several months ago when the hunt for UA's was at it's peak, and the UA hunters were reluctant to see many hours of work destroyed by other CMDR's not sharing the appreciation of this work, or simply accidentally mistook the fire-button for the scanner-button, I prefer to believe the latter.

Well, back on topic; usually I play Solo, where the count of sob's is well known (it is 1) or Open, when I feel like it. So having not played in Mobius for a long and again due to recent events, I wanted to give my 'place' in Mobius to someone who might need it more than me. So enter Friends and private groups, find Mobius and then leave...or so I thought. It appears that the group feature is unable to cope with the current number of CMDR's in Mobius, currently at 19850, because I got a HTTP(?) 500 error.

So, sorry for all the text, to the TL; DR:
  • Always knew Mobius wasn't 100% safe, but then again what is?
  • Group PvE feature should be rethought, what happens if Mobius decides to quit?
  • Could I please leave Mobius and give the spot to someone else?

I clearly haven't been hanging around in the right places ... I've only even played in Open, and I encounter other players all the time, and haven't ever experienced a single moment of grief.

It obviously happens a lot given how much forum angst is devoted to it... so, if I wanted to find myself in the kind of situation where these griefers hang out, where would I go?

Any particular time of day? Timezone? (Helps for co-ordinating the three friends who can jump in a wing with me should I suddenly need it...)

Easy-peasy: Place: CG's. Time of day: Right after public school.

From what I can gather or otherwise ascertain by review of postings on the forum, including but not limited to a self-proclaimed and self-justified griefer who not only admits to attacking new players, but seemingly prides him/herself on such actions, you could find "griefers" in or about the starter systems area. LHS 3447 seems to be the predominant focus of attacks, but other systems do apply. Purportedly, these griefers attack new players in Sidewinders and destroy them in much larger ships, even wings, like FDLs and or Pythons, among other ships. Seems to me like using a mallet to kill and ant, but seemingly, you will find what you are looking for within that area.

getting greifed is part of elite dangerous game play, there will never be a pve only game mode, belive it or not ED isn't a pvp centered game ,

Hmm... I tend to play in the later evening Pacific Time (4-6am UTC), I wonder whether this is what's kept me grief-free?

I suppose it's the bad public school system of the country you live in. I mean, if the school kids aren't able to disrupt your ED game, then public education must be worse :)

I somehow get the impression that the quality of the ISP is more important than time zone. (Ignoring the problems around the definition of the word "griefing").

I often read that players participate in CGs without getting interdicted or attacked. I'm surprised if I don't get interdicted every 2-3 jumps into the CG system. (NO I don't consider that "griefing").

1. Leaving the Mobius group is a known issue, and FD are working to resolve it with the appropriate people.

2. There is no "Group PvE feature" - there is a Group, which has an informal rule of no PvP unless consensual - but there is no "PvE Feature", only a gentleman's agreement within the Group. If Mobius quits, nothing happens, the sky doesn't implode etc. "Mobius" is not a game mode/mechanic, or FD employee.

3. See 1.

What 'Spot'?

Oh, no to all this. I'm going into Open and going to persistently hunt the same players that hassled my mates in my PvP Hate Bear way. The game says 'YES!' So I will. Enjoy xxx

The whole Mobius drama is ridiculous.

It's like reading about someone being hit by a car and then refusing to ever go near a road again because roads are dangerous mmkay.

OMG my safe space is RUINED, somebody do something, we need protecting from the bad men! =/

So much melodrama over nothing.

It really is, there's reams and reams of this stuff all over the forum. It's like this is the centre of people's lives or something.

Ok having your ship blown does chap your butt a little bit but come on, it's a game with imaginary money! Dry your eyes and move on.

On one of the other countless threads on this sad topic it descended into taking about suicide due to griefing. You've just got to shake your head in despair at that stage.

The ELITE DANGEROUS MAYHEM graphic at the top of the forum page is really detracting from the peaceful space trader game idea that some people are trying to cultivate here. Surely the Braben doesn't know his game is being used for EVIL!? :))))))

I think Mobius was the most boring experiences I ever had in this game.
It was like: "Wanna farm this" etc...so it didn't last long. I don't even think I laughed once either.
Humans can be so dull at times...
I would like to leave because I haven't played in it for the longest time.

I guess some ppl like it and I'm cool with them using it but it's just not for me.
I still think it's an important aspect of this game though and should stay.
I didn't play on it because it was safe but as a means to meet humans.

I hear that the starting systems are good places to encounter the joy of online gaming. Myself I've never been attacked in open either, but that's because I'm hanging out in systems where presumably adult aged people are playing.

I started playing in solo exclusively though, not for fear of being ganked, but because of competition in my bounty hunting spot. Not getting kill credit is boring, so I'm exclusively solo now.

I can't argue with that, especially since I'm a product of a good old-fashioned British public education. My school even had BBC Micro computers, and Acorn Archimedes later... yeah, you can guess what I played

What a load of bullpucky.

18000 members, maybe 30 bad apples...

and you leave?

You know you can slip and fall in the shower, so be safe! Don't shower!

Oh, I have a standard way of dealing with those... I place myself between them and my kill, so they get a nice bounty for assaulting me, and I can kill them back.

Last time it happened, earlier this week, the player jumped back and invited me to a wing ... and we actually spent the next hour taking down pirates together instead.
