Surge Detected

I noticed sometimes my scanners will report "Surge Detected" on enemy ships.. Any idea what this means?

Doesn't that refer to the "afterburner" thrust boost?

It mean that the targeted ship is changing it's power assignment pips.

I've been speculating about this also.. which is it? Any dev sources?

I been wanting to ask this for a while as well; I always assumed it was the speed booster, although occasionally I pop the booster in response and find my self zooming past the target frantically while pulling on the brakes.

Yep, confirmed. It is an indication that your target is trying to run away

Actually you're all wrong ;-) A red engine flare shows boost and surge detected tells you they have just put pips into engines.
