Powerplay Systems and undermining, help please

So I undermined for along time (5k merits!) in Djanharu trying to help out the reddit post of my faction. We went far past the "trigger" amount I can see. The other targets my faction set are super far away and I don't want to go that far. So I found a system that hasn't been undermined to the trigger yet, Shenggan. It's close to a ALD control system. So I flew over there and immediately noticed FAR FAR less NPC's spawning that at Djanharu. Like I could barely be in supercruise for 30 seconds at djanharu and find a NPC, but here in Shenggan I've found 2 so far, and it's not looking promising.

Do certain systems have better spawn results for undermining? I know Djanharu was an expansion, does that have something to do with it? Or could I have been unwittingly doing something to help the spawn rate? Previously I did enough undermining to get rank 2 for the past 3 weeks, so by no means am I knowledgeable about this.
Help please.

The frequency does seem to be very RNG. if your in solo try droping out of supercruise and back in different NPCs start spawning and the ones that were around when you dropped are gone. i don't know if this applies to open since other cmdrs could be viewing the same npcs and keep them loaded... that said make sure your actually in a control system not an exploited system. control systems have the undermining goals and a plentiful abundance of the target npc. (i've derped more then once myself on the map and ended up choosing the system right next door to the control system)

your buddy is right: the safest way for you to do PP is solo/private groups. This way the enemy faction has no chance to catch you. If you click by mistake on "open" use the tactic of this ALD cheater: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YwOmyJeieo
And don't forget a strong ALD is an Ald that uses exploits and disregards any honorable actions in PP.

PS: this is a role playing post.

Thanks for the tips! It was a control system but I went back to djanharu. This is the first time I've tried to get above rank 2 and I'm trying to go straight to rank 5. Only 6k merits so far :(

Not sure what "buddy" you're talking about. But you and I definitely have the same idea about solo being the safest option! Great minds think alike!

Power Play in Solo is a travesty.

That being said, I understand that the Federation Control systems spawn the most NPC's, mostly Transport Ships carrying Garrison Supplies... ;)

I'm a newer player who's just trying to hit that rank 5 so I can bounty hunt for more $$$ with ALD. I haven't been playing very long, my clipper rebuy is 6 mill and I have 30 mill. I have never pvp'd in this game, and tbh I'm getting kinda old IRL and had a stroke and my twitch skill is pretty mediocre. I lived for PVP since MMO's came out, and still play league of legends hours per day, but at this moment in time I'm pretty nonconfident in my pvp elite dangerous skills and bank account.

I'll get there. I applied to join a prominent ALD clan today. Maybe if they accept me and show me the ropes and I'm not a solo player anymore i'll do it all in open.

I've been looking, and prolly in the wrong places, but exactly what IS "Undermining"? The PP Page has nothing specifically
stating: Undermine by xxxxxxx. :[
Just started in PP and still trying to figure out the ropes.

So each control system generates command capital every Thursday. Each control system has an upkeep cost. This cost can be reduced by fortifying your control system. This cost can also be increased by enemy if they "undermine" it. So you want to fortify so you can extra CC, or if the system has been undermined you fortify it so it doesn't wind up costing you CC.

As far as what you do, you typically interdict & kill NPC's in that control system that are doing work for the controlling power. If you go to the power's page in the game client under Powerplay, you go to "Control" and you can see each control system they own, and how fortified or undermined it is, and it will explain exactly how you go about undermining that system (basically tells you which NPC to find interdict and kill)

It might be a bit out of date - not sure if it gets changed every time FD update the game - but I found this very helpful when I was starting out:

Powerplay Player Guide

I know there is a lot in there but then Powerplay is pretty complicated. Luck.

ok. Thanks. I figured it had something to do with killing a certain Faction, just never could figure out "Which" ones, and all are labeled "Lawless" which don't help. :]
Thx again, to both of you.

Holy crap is that manual a piece of garbage. I too am trying to figure out underminning and the guide sounds like it was written by a tax attorney or some gov't       . So...can someone PLEASE describe what you should do in order to undermine? I have tried just killing ships pledged to an enemy power but my merits did not increase. Do I need to target SPECIFIC ships?

Frontier REALLY needs to hire someone that can write documentation thats worth reading...because what they have now is garbage.
