The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

Hmmm I did enjoy fallout 4 but at some point I just got bored with it and setup a new game on witcher 3 instead. I know it sounds a bit tin foil hat conspiracy of me but I do think that main stream media sites have begrudgingly accepted witcher 3 as a game of the year and found any excuse not to give it the full glory it deserves.

It seems CDPR has become the new target for everyone's angst since they have become a favourite among gamers for high quality and support.

Well yeah that's true. It's almost as if some of them think that Bethesda, Bioware et al are the pinnacle of the rpg genre and how dare some small company from Poland have the temerity to think they can do better. I happen to think that in every measureable way CDProject has been able to trump anything the big guys have done.

Being Polish, I feel so proud reading these words, thanks! (Guess we've never got much recognition for all the great stuff we did in general...).

Lots of great things comes from Poland!

Slaws Devices, Witcher (CD project games), women :p just to name a few from the top of my mind.

However the Witcher game is a true gem regarding stories and gameplay.

Also Enigma code breaking basis, rad discovery, heliocentric theory... Oh, and don't forget plumbers :D

Thats exactly my thoughts!
So many people cant stand the praise CDPR gets and have to throw accusations and insults around, usually dealing with the so-called "downgrade" of graphics that was debated pre release.
These people are so intent on blacklisting CDPR in a desperate attempt to strip the company of credibility that they are utter oblivious to the fact that The Witcher 3 looks absolutely amazing (as opposed to the often compared Watchdogs that went from looking spectacular to looking like trash) and delivers an openworld experience that truly feels alive.
Amazing graphics, amazing audio/music and superb voice acting on almost all accounts offers immersion like no other RPG I ever encountered.

The witcher 3 is a masterpiece even before discussing more subjective yet important things such as story and gameplay, I wish more people could appreciate this fact instead of trying their hardest to discredit a company that really deserves nothing but praise.
And the only reason I can think of is that they cant stand to be one of the many but just HAS to be one of the few to go against the stream, to hate on something others enjoy.

The fact that CDPR is a smaller studio from a minor country is definitely a factor and it makes me sad AND glad at the same time since CDPR is time and time again proving themselves as one of the, if not THE, most professional studios we have today!
They put their hearts and minds into their development, unlike the "big boys" who only see profit.

This is Why, the night I finished my first playthrough of TW3, I wrote them a mail just to tell them how amazing an experience the game had been.
The only time ive ever done such a thing, but I felt I had to.

TW3 is the best RPG, and in fact the best game I have ever played in my 20+ years of gaming.
The fact that CDPR is doing Cyberpunk is almost too much for me to handle and the wait is gonna be…monumental!!!!

Kholat, Ethan Carter, Witcher... I'd say Polish game companies are pretty influential on the market.

That said, I never finished W3. To me it lacks stuff, and it took a long time to enjoy it. However, it's very well crafted. And I really can't wait what CDP will do next. :)

Your last paragraph I utterly agree with. I agree with all you said in fairness but the last paragraph sums it up for me also. Simply the best gaming experience I've had in the single player genre...period.

What cyberpunk could be like in their hands with its wealth of material to draw upon just boggles my mind. More power to them at CDProject you watch them almost single handedly revitalise the rpg genre AND at the same time show the "big boys" how to construct an open world universe that doesn't feel like your walking around same places doing the same things all the time.

There is a report that Cyberpunk 2077 could come out late this year ya know!

Who knows what it's accuracy is but I bet it's not far off. It was announced in 2012 so 4 years or so, chances are it's using the same engine as W3. I have a funny feeling this could be a game in the same general mode as destiny or the division. An MMO lite type thing. Part of me hopes that's wrong but then part hopes it's right as I think CDProject would make something special like they did with the open world of witcher 3.

Yeah I would also bet they're using RedEngine as it is their own engine. Wouldn't be logical to switch to, say, UE4. Im hoping for sci fi RPG style a la Ghost in the Shell or Blade Runner. :)

Great pics mate keep em coming! Are you a photographer as a day job or something?

I think you won't be far off by saying blade runner either. That's the tone I think they'll aim for.

Not to forget that they have Mike Pondsmith, the actual writer of the original Cyberpunk RPG, working with them on the game!
When I played lots of RPG in my younger years, I sadly never player Cyberpunk (although I did play a rather unknown swedish RPG inspired almost exclusively by Cyberpunk).
But I did play Castle Falkenstein, a crazy but wonderful steampunk also created by Pondsmith. I still own all the books for that game and they are just amazing to read!
The fact that he works with CDPR, and TW3 showing us what these guys can do, I might go out on a limb here but Cyberpunk 2077 has all the potential to become something more then just a perfect game!

We can always hope! But I think 2017 is a more resonable expectation.
While Cyberpunk was announced some years ago, work on the game is likely to have been going slow as they have been hands full with Witcher 3 and its expansions.
CDPR have announced themselves that after "Blood and Wine" they will stop production for Witcher3 to focus 100% on Cyberpunk.

Who knows, perhaps the development of Witcher 3 has given them alot of code to be used in Cyberpunk too so development might be much further ahead then one could expect!

Thanks. Nope I'm no photographer. :)

I really hope so! Too few games gets the Blade Runner feelings right.

Actually ED do have this Blade Runner feeling, I get the vibes many times.

Regarding the Witcher 3, It's one of the best RPG I've ever played, and I compare it to GTA V regarding the environment NPC's.
It is very immersive. Sure they repeat the same lines over and over, but I can live with that. Unless you want a 200 Gb game I think that there must be some reuse of the vocal talk from the NPC's.

The scenery in witcher3 are also just breath taking sometimes, anyone use the photographer mod?

ED is too sterile to be Blade Runner, but yeah, sometimes when flying around in one of the bigger surface cities, I can feel it too. ;)

I use the Photo 2in1 mod. :)

I didn't know about that mod...will have to look into that! Really beautiful shots. Does the mod cause any in game problems at all that you've noticed?

From mist island? great picture. Yeah that is ED number one problem, it feels sterile even when you are in the big settlements.
I just don't know why they don't place some SRV's or other equipment on rails and make it less sterile.

In the witcher 3 going to some of the big cities there are lots and lots of NPC's. Very immersive indeed.

Modding Witcher 3 isn't as easy as modding Skyrim. I just go through the installation processes very carefully. Not a whole lot of issues so far. :)

Agreed.
Witcher 3 has a lot of extras which you can't interact with. But it increases the immersion by just having things around.
This is something FD should've been working on from the beginning. Things are just.....empty as it is now. Sterile and monotonous.

Feel free to have a look at my W3 modding guide, which actually includes that mod :)

http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Rootsrat/TheWitcher3_Return_Of_The_White_Wolf

The mods part of the guide is not up to date, as I'm waiting for the 2nd expansion to be released, but you can get the general idea how to install that mod and some other more complex ones as well.

I'm looking into your guide from time to time. Cheers.

You seem to be quite oriented around mods...
Is it possible to use the Debug Console to change time of day? Cheat Engine works but I strongly dislike that tool.
