All Purpose Python Build

Hello fellow CMDRs,

I have been in the elite world for since Oct. '15 and am now looking to start ranking up with Federation/Empire just for fun. My plan is to use an all purpose Python build in order to take a variety of combat, trade, and courier missions. This may not be the best approach but I wanted to try it out as I loved flying my Python while doing trading and have heard great stories about how it is a jack of all trades.

I am writing to you today, to petition your advice on the following build:

Please let me know if I should stick to pure ships for specific missions or try to multi-mission with a single ship.

- you should definetly take a multipurpose ship, if you want to play a lot of missions. if you need to switch ships, you won't be able to pick up any mission that helps.

- i'm personally more "effective" (more missions per hour :D ) in a cobra, then in my python, because you rarely need more then 20-30 t of cargo, and you are quicker in and out of a station, but a python is obviously able to do more...

- size of your fuelscoop is fine for everything, even longrange.

- get a class b collector limpet controller (more range, less time then A), or a class C/D, a doesn't help playing missions.

- chaff doesn't help a lot on a python, because it is a quite big ship. maybe put one. get shieldboosters.

- get a shieldcellbank

- get the smalles a-class powerplant, which can run your build (4A/5A) - better heatmanagement

- get a discovery scanner. missions take you to place, where you haven't been at.

- a python is a horror to fly with 5D thruster. it flies like an Adder with 6D. it gets acceptable with 6C. it gets a different ship with 6A. i personally would fly a python with less then 6C only for exploration

- and even then you will want to have medium turretts for pesky eagles, because the python only turns well with FAOFF

- basically: the cheapest usefull python build i know is 85 mio CR with discounts - and the ship starts making fun around 110 mio CR. if you don't have that credits, you'll always be more effective in a 15 mio a-class cobra mk III

Basil,

Thank you for sharing your load out. I have a couple of questions about your load out. Recently, I just returned from a trip to Saga and back. I used my ADS(advance discovery scanner) a lot on that trip but do not find many systems in the bubble that result in data when scanned. How often you do use your ADS? How often are you fuel scooping and do you typically top off when you do or just scoop to get to your next hop?

Do you find that the 160T of cargo space is sufficient to do trade missions? Also what is your Trader Rank?

How easy is travel with 14.16Ly?

Do you Bounty Hunt in this ship? If not, do you use your KWS often for missions?

Thank you goemon. Solid advice on the A rate Power Plant, I was trying to get my weight down by going with D but forgot about heat mgmt.

I have not used SCBs much before, if I have 372 MJ shields will a 6A SCB be a waste?

6A won't be wasted, but you might get heat problems (thats what heatsinks are for...) and it is really heavy (40T) - only providing 20 mj more and 1 load more then a 5A.

Here is my modified build based on everyones feedback.

My goal is to strike a balance between combat and trading. I am debating if I want to strip some weight by going 5D Shields and keep the D rate Power Distributor/Sensors.

I picked up Turreted MCs for those pesky eagles but am curious if I should change my weapon loadout. I am an experienced combat pilot but not an expert by any means. I need to practice No Flight Assist turning but in the past I handled smaller ships by going in reverse and firing all weapons forward. This works for NPCs but I do not have any combat experience in a Python versus players. This build is mainly focused for PvE.

My concern with my weapon loadout is if I run into larger ships for some of my missions.

weapon loadout shouldn't be much of a problem... i'd swap one multicannon for a turetted pulse (if you stay with the 7D powerdistributor, otherwise beam) - those eagles shall fry fast. also you won't need two heatsinks - you will dock often running missions, and therefore will have reammunation often - either one chaff (in case you take an anaconda assassination) or another shieldbooster.

going backwards is quite foolproofed as off now, but the python is much slower than most smaller ships, so boost-FAOFF-flip-FAON gives you the speed going backwards. it is only about basic FAOFF manouvers like boost flip - but those are "required" in PVE in a python, too.

there isn't a lot you need to be afraid off in a python pve - you can always highwake out if that wing you take on is to much. i don't think you willl need all that cargo space for running missions - you could also go for a class 6D shield, when you want to stay lightweight, swap your 3A FSDI for a 4D (no difference in functionality) and put a class 5 fuelscoop back up, if you want to run longrange missions ... and a docking computer, because running a lot of missions means a lot of docking...

but anyways, your build looks solid now, enjoy testing it and make it better for you!

I get more than a few BB missions requiring 140 - 160t of cargo for 1 mission. Most decent BB missions are hauling 40 - 60t of cargo. If you want to stack missions the extra cargo space is very useful.
