Hardware & Technical GTX 970 for 1440p Ultra FPS

I know this topic has been covered and I see that the GTX 970 can handle 60fps on ultra at 1440p, but the only example I'm seeing is someone using a 60hz monitor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWTZe4ZwPzI). I just want to see how many frames people are seeing with this GPU above 60 hz. I'm building a PC this weekend for ED with a 144hz 1440p Acer monitor but I want to see just how many frames it can handle. I'm either going to get the 970 and wait for the new Pascal architecture to be released or get the 980ti. I just want to make sure I make the correct decision. Elite and BF4 are probably the most demanding games I play.

man dont get 980ti just yet-lets see what this pascal is all about,970 is much cheaper than 980 ti and if pascal turn out to be not good or super expensive you start looking at 980 ti or even 1080 if they do release it this summer

and i think batllefield 4 not only uses gpu but the cpu works out alot with all those people and explosions

I'll be using the i5-6600k processor, so i definitely won't have any limits from a cpu standpoint. I'm leaning towards waiting but if i can't run 1440p which is my goal then that's why I'm considering the 980ti.

175-179 fps in space.
130-135 in stations.
45-48 planetside.

Tested at 2560x1440 on ultra settings on i7 4790/gtx970/16Gb ram/game on ssd/win10.

Hope this helps :)

You rock. And you find the planet side stuff acceptable for gameplay? I don't go on planets often so I'm sure it's fine. Just want your opinion.

Can't speak for OP's reasons but those two CPUs overclock about the same, with the i5 coming in around £100 cheaper. That leaves the difference between them of a bit of cache and hyper threading, neither of which makes a huge difference to typical workloads. I do find Skylake does like ram bandwidth, so it can help to get something a bit faster than minimum.

As I'm about to embark on a build myself, why the 6600k over the 6700k?

Exactly that, for gaming the i7 doesn't make a bit of difference because no games to my knowledge utilize hyperthreading (at least ED doesn't), I'm coming from an Asus G74sx laptop with low settings on 1080 so anything at 1440 would be great, but if i can max out I'd be satisfied considering I'm investing $1500. I can afford both the 970 and 980ti, I just think the new pascal cards are going to roll out in April and I'll be able to trade in the 970 for the new series because I'm getting an EVGA card and they have a step up program.

This video convinced me to go with the 970
