Surround Gaming

Hi there does anyone know if this game will support surround gaming (3 montiors) I remember reading somewhere about it being stretched too much over the other montiors but that was a while ago so things may have changed. Can anyone confirm?

Works fine. Stretching is evident but not that bad that it ruins anything.

Here is my surround setup.

To fix stretching Frontier would have to implement separate monitor rendering/camera FOV. This is something you often see in racing sims.

Unsure if they have the capability, skills and/or resources to code it into the game.

It works for me in a triple screen setup as well. And I hope that Frontier do fix the stretching setup.

This from Ben Parry, one of the Graphics Coders on the game may be of interest:

While obviously wraparound support would be superior, do bear in mind that if you put your head at the "camera position" and set the FOV correctly, the side stretching should exactly cancel out the foreshortening effect you get from the outside edges of the monitor being at an angle to you.
Admittedly this means you're using a lot of pixels to fill a fairly small segment of your visual field.

That's kind of major downside.

The point of triple monitor is not so much tactical advantage but immersion, so it stands to reason we want the widest field of view as possible. Not to mention it seems counter intuitive to invest in a gpu config capable of running such large displays only to have to zoom in and crop our FOV to fix a stretching image.

You may have misunderstood. What I was saying is that if your central monitor is showing the standard visual area (and you've set it at a FOV and distance where it doesn't look distorted), additional monitors in the same plane will extend your view correctly.

me 3... This looks soo awesome. I got 1x 16:9 for centre and 2 x 4x3 sides, so I hope it gets fixed.

Youre aspect ratios make it tough for Frontier.

They have to support
16:9
16:10
4:3
5:4 < only used by 1280*1024 monitors, of which I'm using three.

and then people go make it harder by using mis mathced ratio monitors.

Nothing like setting a big challange for Frontier.

yeah it looks amazing, I am curently researching what graphic(s) cards to buy o get a decent frame rate, I don't have an alot amount of money to spend and not looking to max out graphics settings either.
snowghost what graphics card you using for that setup?

Yeah, but I don't have the money to purchase 3 x 16:9's, I have to keep my 4:3's for the time being.

additional monitors in the same plane will extend your view correctly.

I guess the most efficient way to do this would be to have a vertex shader passthrough, add additional clip planes via geometry shader and transform vertices for each monitor view space yourself with a different screen transform matrix.

Translate: CBA, just move your monitor to be coplanar ;)

Well TBH, I just hope it doesn't look too bad having. I'll be happy with not too bad, I'm easily pleased...

And hopefully "Actual Multiple Monitors" may help me with getting this right. It works wonders in FS games that normally minimise when you swap to another screen for a browser window or something.
