So I'm preordering the Vive today

Now my PC is pretty crap so I'll be upgrading that in three weeks time. The question is is I have a R290X which is probably the only decent component I have in my computer. So shall I get a T980i, another 290X or should I wait for the Pascal to come out.

Any suggestions people.

I've not been on E:D for a while, I find configuring the Edtracker a pain although it's a great product. But I've decided to go high end with the Vive. I'll get Horizons today at some point. Also do you think it's worth taking the plunge and upgrading my Win 7 to 10?

if it was me i would wait........ iirc pascal titan is out in april, and 1070/1080x in june.

your current GPU will allow you to experience some cool VR demos and what not, and even stuff like ED will be ok on low detail ..... pascal is, if rumours are to be believed, a good jump up from maxwell.

Same here and also have the rift preordered too.

I have a 980ti (msi gaming) and it maxes out the steamvr test with an i5 4670k.

Considering that's what most devs are aiming at right now it might be best to order a 980ti then you'll be ready for launch. Sell the 980ti in a couple of months and buy a pascal, that way you'll be good for everything at launch and actually be able to play your vr hmd properly in case the pascal doesn't release in April.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking Mike. Upto ten times faster if the hype is to be believed.

careful on getting your hopes up.. certain functions - i cant remember which - are up to 10x faster, the over all card will not be however.....

imo if the gtx 1080 is over 50% faster than the 980 at the same price of the 980 at launch then that will still be a damn good upgrade.

I also reckon it will have additional benefits elsewhere - more performance per watt, so a cooler card, and therefore a cooler system (or the ability to shove more volts in it to overclock it better ;) )

bang for buck, the GTX1070 may be the one too look at..... if that comes in at GTX970- prices but with current maxwell titan type performance then that will be a great card (my logic is that is kind of what the GTX970 did last generation albeit hampered by the memory issue which i would think nvidia wont do that again)

I expect i will be getting a gtx1080, however my GTX980 should put me on till black friday... i have picked up some cracking bargains the last 2 black fridays

Right now as I count down the hours to the preorder of the Vive I'm just reading up on the GTX 1080. I'm just hoping that the Vive doesn't let me down. I'm generally not an early adopter but this technology has me excited. I've waited since 1988 when I experienced VR in London on one of those primitive arcade machines.

The first part of your thread subject is missing. All I can see is "so I'm preordering the Vive today" therefore there has to be something before that statement such as 'I like the £689 price so I'm preordering the Vive today.'
What is the missing bit please?

i think it is just a turn of phrase.

Where did you see that, everything I read about Pascal hints the end of the year...Polaris 10 will be coming in april but no word on Polaris 11 (high end)...

In German, but it give you a nice feeling how it will be like to use the HTC Vive.

I've been following the next-gen GPU "rumours" (and for the most part it is all rumours and conjecture at this stage) quite closely and the most likely scenario is that both AMD and Nvidia will have cards out in the June to August timeframe. AMD may surprise everybody by bringing out the entry level Polaris cards first (and possibly the FuryX2 at around the same time). I think it's very unlikely that Pascal will be out in April.

I wonder what options will be given to mount the lighthouses to the wall.

My guess will be a small bracket but i dunno!.

indeed as much as the light houses are touted as a positive for some for me they are a pita... for some reason i thought they were optionally battery powered and then could charge them if you wanted when not in use. sadly they are not looking at the specs, so i need to have 2 sockets near them or have trailing wires.

still i have the order page open, ..... 19mins 40s and counting...

what to do........... what to do ........... ;).
