Do you ever wonder...

...who they are, and where they were going?

I'm 5kLy out from Sol and 500 Ly 'up', heading off to Sag A*.
It's lonely out here, virgin system after virgin system, and then...

'First discovered by...'

One system, out in the middle of nowhere and somebody else has been here.
Suddenly, it's not so lonely after all...

It's when you spend 6 months out here, virgin system after virgin system - I think I saw 3 or 4 tags in about six thousand systems and then you get to about 64.5kly from Sol and suddenly it's 2 tags every 3 systems as everybody funnels into the end of the arm...

I always find it a bit of a shock when you've scanned down thousands of undiscovered systems and suddenly find a single system tagged by another Commander. It's somehow comforting. The only mark of a fellow human being in weeks, possibly months of lonliness :)

I like this too, I remember being about 13,000ly out in the middle of absolute nowhere and coming across a random tag. I wish we could have information as to when it was discovered too though.

All depends on the path the person took, you have to remember how many stars that are within a certain jump range, take 34ly jump range, it is entirely possible that someone started in a system quite far away aiming towards another system and the one you saw their discovery in was simply one system along their path, if they were going at highest jump range jumps as possible.
The problem why it is so hard to grasp and feels weird is because there's so so so so many possible star systems to jump into such systems from and to exit into.

I think it would be so awesome if there was more information offered than just the "first discovered by..." tag. Like the suggestion for date of discovery. I also often run into many systems in a row first discovered by the same person and i find myself wondering what their end destination was. I haven't spent much time exploring yet but it can get awfully monotonous out there, it would be cool if you could sometimes come across an old shipwreck of an unfortunate explorer, or if explorers could erect sort of momuments to dedicate the end point of a long journey or other things. Anything to add to the uniqueness and individuality of any particular system will make it that much more enjoyabke and satisfying to discover and explore.
