News Frontier trading update.

The true story behind these events was revealed to my last night and i feel duty bound to share what i have discovered.

My little sisters best friends cousins niece has informed me that a particularly aggressive group of players from my little pony online are planning an all out griefing assault on elite dangerous, many hundreds of there players are assembling as we speak around the horse head nebula preparing for the attack, they may have also bought up as much FD stock as possible to drive down the price and i fear that may also have infiltrated the frontier board room. apparently this was all triggered by the suggestion that Todd the engineer had been modeled on vim diesel. now i can not confirm the truthfulness of this story but its currently the hottest topic in most kindergarten playgrounds, personally i,m not taking any chances and will be parking up my anaconda for a few days.
I have interrogated my own 6 year old son but he refuses to speak, which is very uncharacteristic and leads me to believe there may be some truth to these rumors. good luck commanders be careful out there.

A spokesman for the group has made 3 demands 1. At least 1 spaceship in elite must be named after a horse. 2. Todd must be given hair immediately. and 3 Version 2.1 must be delayed until June as to not conflict with the pony convention scheduled for late May.

Also note - You did not hear this from me - horses have been giving me strange looks all day and i,m getting concerned for my safety.

No one's that lucky....

Could be. However shifting the company's tax burden to a future year at the same time as announcing plans to start selling naming rights which will generate short-term income income (a move which seemed odd to me at the time since it came out of nowhere but makes more sense when viewed next to yesterday's announcement) would actually be a classic indicator of a company envisaging cash flow issues over the next 12 months.

I work for HMRC by the way.

Obviously I'm not saying that I think that is what's going on here, I'm just saying that dismissing the possibility would be naive.

I had naively thought that it panned out to "because we made a significant amount of money this year, if we declare it as income we pay a lot of tax. If we defer it until next year it balances the tax bill?"
Also there looked to be machinations whereby they cannot declare income on DLC they haven't released? (I might be wrong?)... So it becomes "We cannot declare all earnings from Horizons in this tax year as we have not delivered a product yet?

In the end I want the game to be as good as they want it to be, I probably want it updated a little bit faster than they want it... I have the luxury these days of not being a content eater, so I am not "bored of doing the same old things" yet :)

Thanks for you feedback.
I just read the forums as exactly any other also does and didn't expect to stoke any flames at all.
Why shouldn't i express my personal opinions about the game and my reasons not to play it anymore?

As I said, and I would like to reiterate here, this delay in itself shows that the development team and the leadership team are passionate about delivering quality above all else and this is only a good thing for all of us who love and enjoy the game so much.

I don't know... David Braben just tweeted a photo of the carry-on in the Frontier offices at the moment, and to be honest it makes the Wolf of Wall Street look tame.. As a developer, I know that's always what we're up to when we're "pushing deadlines back to focus on quality". Teehee! *

(* Some or all of the above statement may be divergent from the social concept known as 'truth'. In such cases reality has it wrong. In the event that you're unhappy with this post, I pledge to improve its quality over the next several weeks..... partay!)

So what are you doing here then exactly? Other than stoking the flames.

ED isn't perfect it never will be, and player no's will always drop off at some point. Unless you make a DOTA or Counter Strike people will move away and play other things. The great thing about Elite is its a game you can leave for a few months and then come back to. Games like that are keepers, and ED is certainly a keeper in that regard.

Thanks for you feedback.

It might be true, but considering *huge* changes regarding missions and USS and game backend really, I suspect it might be combination of everything, included your theory.

Also a valid interpretation, hence my last line. On its own the issue of shifting the tax burden to a future year doesn't really tell us anything, there are a number of reasons that a company wouold choose to do that.

I'm not disputing their statement that they're focused on delivering a quality update at all, that and my own comment aren't mutually exclusive. Wasn't trying to bash them at all, just saying that there may well be more than one factor at work here.

Hey guys,

First of all thank you to everyone who have been so understanding about the short delay. It's really only a small number of weeks but that time is super important in making sure the update is ready.

A number of people have asked about whether this means that there will be delays or the other updates will be effected. We're not in a position to give firm release dates on those but it's important to remember that this entire update is about a focus on quality and I think that's really important to remember.

This means we wouldn't subsequently release another update unless it was ready and meets the same high quality standard. Remember that in a recent interview David mentioned that we do have developers working on season 3 and 4 already. Simply because one update is delayed doesn't mean that work is not already being done on another update. As I said, and I would like to reiterate here, this delay in itself shows that the development team and the leadership team are passionate about delivering quality above all else and this is only a good thing for all of us who love and enjoy the game so much.

Thanks Zac, wasn't much afraid of the delay. Take all the time it takes to make this patch the best ;)

Could we get the class 4 weapons as an early 2.1 release?

It is stupid I know, but... Nothing bad in asking.

Hi Zac,
If you have the time could you please tell us where players now stand that have applied for a minor faction? As you can appreciate we have been waiting months to be added and now sadly, I think it might be looking like this now might not be happening until June at the very earliest?? Is this correct or might you now kindly consider adding these applicants before this much appreciated upgrade.

Zac, the more important question is, are you still working on *one year – one gameplay feature* scheme or we will have fully working clan system before season 5 for example? I really doubt that our huge groups of players will survive 4 more years. Moreover, I have a bad feeling that your * fantastic community of players* is melting like snow in springtime because of the lack of the gameplay features. Believe me Zac, the first space sim with all gameplay features in it will blow you from the market regardless of how ED is qualitative, bugless and etc. ED needs the content Zac, not the shine only.

Minor factions are added in batches every couple of months roughly. There is a new batch going over to the devs shortly. This gets added bon a server side update so no need to wait till 2.1 (desciptions will follow in 2.1 but the faction will be live beforehand).

Hope that helps.
