I held off for a bit but finally got Premium Beta

Hey All
I'm an old gamer and played Elite on the c64. I'm a big fan of every open world space sim and the x wing games. Even the X games. Its a good time for people like me. We've had a big drought of these games and now we have choice.

I had a go at the single player missions last night and loved it!
You know a game is going to be good when it takes you about 4 hours to set the controls up and learn how to adjust all the systems and work panels...so cool.
And the audio...ah, awesome!
I've been scoping the forums and looking around a lot, but I have a question. On May the 30th do the Premium people get to trade and explore the galaxy?

Yes lets hope so we need a lot more people testing and pushing the game code because the test arena will get a lot bigger , with a lot more things to test and explore for bugs and exploits so that the DEV's can fix them .
We will welcome all BETA testers to the next build as the game progress and expands .:)

Welcome, and all going well the real premium beta begins on May 30th, although not sure if the whole galaxy will be available or we're going to be confined to 200 cubic light years within the galaxy (as Alpha 4 will be).

I'm really looking forward to testing alpha 4. I want to just fly around and explore even if it's just a few systems. Anyone know if there will be multiple planets in a system?

Ooh, I hope so. I've always been a fan of planets. :D Frontier could have written a procedurally generated solar system simulator and I'd buy it (hint, Frontier, if you're short of cash...). I might end up just exploring, but in thirty years of Elite playing I've never got past dangerous and I'm determined this time to not just look at the pretty pictures!

The premium beta will include, without doubt, the main features of the game. However, many details will be hidden, certainly, to keep all the richness of the game until the release of the gamma

The beta will have the majority of the core gameplay mechanics implemented...but not all features for gameplay will have been implemented.
Beta is far off being a "game" and is still a test platform.

Gamma/RC release is where most of the gameplay and features will be implemented.

This is exactly what I said, but worded differently

:)

Sorry but I do not understand the meaning of your sentence. Translation problem, doubtless

:S :)

I was referring to the fact it's early in the morning and my coffee has not kicked in :)

go-go-gadget coffee was a reference to the cartoon Inspector Gadget, that used to be on tv in the 80's in England. He was basically a human swiss army knife and when ever he needed something he would say "go-go-gadget-blender" and a blender would appear from his sleeve, or "go-go-gadget-copter" and a helicopter blades appeared from his hat :D

Here's the opening theme of Inspector Gadget, some good old nostalgia:

Unless the guys at Frontier change their minds about it then the premium beta and indeed the final released game will have this limitation on how far we can initially travel. This has been confirmed by David Braben himself in interviews

I was wondering about that - I have seen people talk about visiting systems 100's of LY away but that ain't going to happen in a 200 cubic LY galaxy. Not saying that 200 LY^3 isn't big enough, just noting the disparity !
