Backer Account and Beta Access Confusion

Hi all

I find the details for Beta Access very confusing and wonder if anyone can provide clarification.

======= Backer Account =======

I backed E:D as ‘Federal Trader’ to the tune of £37 back in December, and in the desktop app it looks like this:
Total Backed: £37.00 Reward Credit: £0.00
My Rewards
Federal Trader
• Federal Trader: Have the option to start in a Federal border system with a basic Cobra Mk III loaded with cargo worth 1,000 CR and 1,000 CR in cash (randomised system choice for multiplayer reasons).
• Download a digital copy of the official sequel to “The Dark Wheel” novel.
• Imperial Bounty Hunter: Have the option to start in an Imperial Colony with an Imperial Eagle Mk II Fighter with upgraded weapons and shields and 1,000 CR (randomised start system choice for multiplayer reasons).
• Receive a digital copy of the game and 500 credits when starting a new game.
• Reserve your Commander name in the game (first come, first served, except Jameson).
• Receive the digital newsletter and progress updates.
• Be an Elite supporter, and get a digital code when the game is released to apply a transferrable decal to your ship, unique to you, the game’s backers.
[ETC]

When I log into the E:D Online Store, it shows only £30(not £37):
Items Ordered
Product Name SKU Price Qty Subtotal
Subtotal £30.00
Grand Total £30.00
Elite: Dangerous FORC-FDEV-D-1003 £30.00 Ordered: 1 £30.00

Which is peculiar, but I’m not too stressed about it and am sure I’ll get the items I backed for…

However this also reflects on my next(and the main reason I am posting) questions regarding Beta Access:

======= Beta Access =======

I am potentially interested in Beta Access, but the available options and some of the FAQ wording aren’t too clear cut(to me anyway!)

From this thread: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=14555

The ability to upgrade to Premium Beta is now available for anyone who has already pre-ordered the standard Beta or the final game. This option is now available on the store after signing in.

Premium Beta purchase summary:

• Immediate access to download a Single Player Combat build to develop your Sidewinder skills before the first Premium Beta build is released
• Automatic access all the Beta development stages
• Automatic access to all major downloadable expansion packs as they are released
• A download copy of the released game
The full Premium Beta will be available from 30th May, with access to the Single Player Combat build OUT NOW.

So, the wording here leads me to believe that purchasing the £100 Premium Beta gives not only Beta access, but also a copy of the full game pre-order(£35) and also the E:D Expansion Pass(£35) ?

If so, the £100 cost appears to be good value for money, however, what does this mean with regards to the £37 I have already spent?

If I were to purchase the Beta Access, it would completely nullify almost everything I paid for when I backed(with the exception of a few items)

If this is indeed the case, then it feels as though backing was a waste of time and I might as well have waited and just bought the Beta Pass?

I would like to join Beta, but I can't justify paying another £100 on top of what I’ve already spent when it will render my original purchase almost completely useless.

If you were to tell me that this scenario has already been considered, and they will deduct the £37 from the £100 Beta cost, then consider me sold and I’ll sign up now.

Sorry for such a long post and hope it makes sense

Hi,

Your original amount you backed the game for will be discounted from the total when you buy Standard Beta, Premium beta etc.

When the original backers app was closed and moved over to the webstore there were some differences for a reason I can't remember at the moment.

If you get to the final stage of upgrading and you don't see the discount applied, email support@zaonce.net and they can send you a discount code.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi T.j

I think you helped me out last time I posted, with not completely dissimilar questions.

You've managed to /thread my entire question(s?) with just a few words, so thank you again! I will attempt to buy Beta now and see what happens

Cheers

No problem Happy to help. :D

If you still have problems let one of the Mod team know.

I've gone through to checkout and you're right! It worked, well mostly :)

Product Name Price Qty Subtotal
Subtotal £100.00
Discount (for upgrade from Elite Dangerous) -£35.00
Grand Total £65.00

Not sure why it says 35 instead of 37, not that its a big deal.

I will email support@zaonce.net and depending how quickly they answer, I will see you all in the Beta, how exciting!

You're a kickstarter, at the £37 level. At that level, you got the game (worth £25 in the kick starter, now worth £35) plus a bunch of virtual feelies and a bonus start. So you saved yourself £10 PLUS a whole bunch of bonuses by supporting the game via kickstarter.

Hi Darkfyre99

Yep you're absolutely spot on, I just had clarification of the same from the very helpful Ashley Barley on Customer Services at Frontier Developments (who respond incredibly quickly btw if anyone ever needs help)

And I am now a Premium Beta member woohoo!!!

This has cleared up some of the confusion I had also. Thanks!

I have one remaining question:

Do we know yet when our backer rewards become available?

i.e. When will I be able to become an Imperial Bounty Hunter in my shiny Eagle MKII?

:D

Probably not until the game is officially released but I suppose it's possible that they might allow us to have them sometime during Gamma.

I believe that the new store takes into account that the downloadable products.
£35 in the kickstarter corresponds to the digital download of the dark wheel
