UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Greetings Commander,

I'm quite new to this thread and i did not read the whole content...

Yesterday, i decided to have a look at the amazing thing you found... I took my exploconda and headed directly to Merope 5C.
And after few time searching for the Barnacle... I found it. :)
That's really fun by itself.

'til now, i did not shoot anything... I tried to scan it with no success.
Should i try to shoot and collect stuff from it ?

I'm planning to leave soon to an exploration trip with no specific goal...
Do you think i should collect anything from the barnacle and experiment on it ?

I find the lack of significant discoveries regarding the barnacle noise, somewhat upsetting.

So I'm going to try and get some help from other Codebreakers:

I'm heading to the Computer Museum at Bletchley park on the 11th of March. [http://www.tnmoc.org/]
I'll also visit the trust nearby [https://www.bletchleypark.org.uk/content/about/BPTrust.rhtm]

For those that don't know... Bletchley park is where the Enigma code was broken during World War 2.

If anyone has ideas concerning the sound please message me and I'll see what information I can get about it, first hand.
Hoping to meet people that will take a crack at figuring out these noises.

Bonus:
50 minute recording of the barnacle noise (.flac)

What if we dont fix a station? Has this happened? Pick a station we dont like, feed it ua's untill it brakes and then dont give it meta alloys. Mabe soething new will happen?

Good idea, Pick any federal station and destroy it...

We have plenty of unfixable broken stations. I'm keeping my eye on Gaiman Dock in 49 Arietis.

No need to break any more space stations. Closing a planet port could be interesting though (Dirichlet camp in 49 Ari).:D

No. Not necessarily. As was mentioned recently by another commander whose name escapes me right now (sorry, the space-whiskey got to me again) Caine-Massey containers have been found at other crash sites.
Suppose you were a crash scene investigator at the site of a traffic accident in the early 21st century: Would you assume that a company called 'Samsung' were somehow responsible for an accident just because you found a sat-nav with the 'Samsung' logo on it at the scene? No. You wouldn't. Unless you were a silly person.

It is entirely possible that Caine-Massey are nothing more than a company that specializes in making freight containers. And nothing more.

I know it's fun to find intrigue and conspiracy, but if you look too hard you can find it everywhere, and it is in that direction that madness lies.

With that in mind, though, I don't think it would be wrong to ask the Mighty Mr Brookes to divulge some lore: I mean, wouldn't our commanders have access to 34th Century Space-Google? If we did a search for "Caine-Massey" what would 34th Century Space-Google reveal? Are they manufacturers of freight containers, or is there more?

Of course, if they are a super dark mega cloaked untouchable secret organisation then maybe 34th Century Space-Google don't know about dat ;)

Sorry playing catch up!! I did indeed visit all known crash sites and found massey crates at all along with missing pilot seats.. Once I am up to date I'll see if there are any more confirmed sites and check them out to!.. 07

what was it?
Cryptic clues in his blog and updates that eventually deciphered to "EB, P". Which was rot-13 for "RO, C", eventually decoded as "Right On, Commander"

A fun little game, but interwoven in the early UA threads it was quite misleading that it might have been part of the in-game mystery. Many of us thought Drew might have some inside information on the game's mysteries (which might still be true), and that he was pointing us towards something in game. Turned out to be more of a diversion.

Guys i was serious when i suggested constructing MA-extractors.
As we all are scientist of different colours and shapes,
i also want to suggest constructing camera documentation drones,
to keep track of selected sites.

After all time we do not know much about the UA and i feel
we deserve another CG with a meaningful option to give us more insight to barnacle sites.

However, Draw Wagner has stated that there is something to be found up there... and there has been since the Beta.

Links to quotes please. So much speculation has gone on, especially in relation to things Drew says about Raxxla, that I just can't trust a statement like that without seeing the original quotes. (And I don't have the time to stalk Drew just in case he says something interesting.)

Its true, he did say there is something to be found, and that it could be found at launch. I cant be bothered to hunt it down either.

That's because you're looking at it the wrong way.

Drew's test was more of a tool to get people involved with something.... anything to do with the game which admittedly lost a lot of its luster in terms of content and really cemented the foundations of what the Canonn was to be really about; a bunch of commanders working together to make heads or tails of a riddle which even if not in game per se, was still a riddle which ultimately was solved. Personally Drew's "diversion" is what got me to really break out of the bubble and push past the known and into a playstyle that was finally exciting.

I think there is value in that.

Drew asked DB about the Raxxla. DB confirmed it's in game.

I know Raxxla is in game and has been since beta. Gypsy stated that Drew has said there is something to be found in the BOVOMIT sectors, with the inference that it is Raxxla. It's that I'm sceptical about.

Does not mention BOVOMIT sectors.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it or that I didn't learn from it. I'm sure others did too. It got me to read his whole blog and buy his book, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
But a huge amount of time was spent on that riddle with the assumption that it had something to do with the game. Drew could have easily clarified and allowed that effort to be focused, but instead he played into that and let people go crazy looking in game using his clues. I appreciate the value of the riddle for what it was, but I also support the idea that we should take Drew's hints with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism.

btw, it's not very nice to tell people they're looking at something the "wrong way". My perspective on the issue is just as valid as yours, and they're probably not that far apart. ;)

Edit: Also there's this post where I stood up for the idea that Drew wouldn't mislead us and make people waste their time going down the wrong path. I was mistaken.
