Third Flight Assist law option -- Rotational Stabilisation

Currently there are two flight-assist laws: off and make-spaceship-fly-like-fighter-jet.

I'd like to request that there be a third mode that dampens your rotation whilst not affecting your linear velocity in any way.

Rotation rate would be proportional to stick displacement and therefore centring the stick will cause you to stop rotating. I understand this is actually the normal method of real spacecraft control during manual manoeuvres such as Soyuz flyarounds and the old US shuttle docking. It'd also reduce my nausea levels considerably! ;-)

Cheers,

Not going to happen, sorry.

May I ask why?

I mean, flying FAOFF is not a problem but having to counter rotation with a stick is rather annoying as oversteering is a high possibility.

It's basically adding an extra set of FA options?

Design choice or bothersome to do?

Design by choice, a very old one in fact. There's plenty of stuff in the forums about it if your search fu is strong. Basically I wanted FAOff to be artificially difficult.

Since you're here, I want to take a moment to applaud that design decision. It's one of the best ones you guys ever made! I love that the Flight Assist options present tradeoffs, rather than simply being "noob mode" and "expert mode."

A mode with linear but no angular momentum would instantly become The Only Way To Fly. GG Mike.

funny thing is...thats how i remember my time from Battlefield 2142.
with regular controls you could not flip your jet over, it was always parallel to the ground.
but there was a way to archive that, i dont know anymore how, a script or something like that, that allowed to to do those "impossible" things, they had a massive advantage over regular pilots.

im glad that isnt the case here, there is a small difference between mouse and hotas, but both have advantages (i cant hit with fixed weapons and a hotas for example)

I see it like a missed opportunity to make a non atmospheric planetary flights interesting like on fighter airplane. You will be manually controlling the speed with rear thrusters and lifting force of the "wings" with bottom thrusters. The flight model will be different than current FA On. Imagine planetary Arena CQC combat modes with stable FA Off. It could have been great.

Rotation correction could have been used in this case rather than for docking. For docking there could have been used docking computer with automatic and manual mode.
