News Elite Dangerous - Oculus Rift update

Excellent news- ED was built for VR, and I really didn't expect it to be exclusive to one type. I actually just expected a longer delay for support and maybe Vive for three months first before OR, but this means FD have covered both camps for the maximum possible take-up of earlier adopters when titles are limited- which can only be positive for new sales too. Although I've already got a DK2, I'm still looking forward to checking both OR and Vive (whichever gets delivered first...) just to see which looks better.

In addition, the Oculus Store will be selling a Deluxe Edition bundle which will include Elite Dangerous, Elite Dangerous Horizons Season Pass, a starter pack of paint jobs and a bobble head. As with Steam, Oculus Store customers will also have to create a Frontier Store account (for no extra charge) as part of the purchase process.

Are any of these skins/ the bobble head exclusive to the pack? I've been on board since premium beta with a dk1/2 and have already preordered my CV1 and VIVE. I'd hate to miss out on a cool cv1 wearing bobblehead or a skin with a VR on board decal because I adopted it too early.

E:D has been my go-to choice for demoing VR for folks even back when the DK1 was the norm. I couldn't tell you how many people bought a dk2 and the game after I demoed it for them. Or at least told me that's what they were doing. I personally know of 6.

If were talking strictly from a resolution standpoint my GTX970 can power everything on Ultra on 1440p. The worst is on planets when I drop to between 50-55fps. The DK2 has a resolution of 2160x1200 or 1080x1200 per eye meaning it technically has less resolution than true 1440p. Going off of this the 970 should be more than enough card to power the DK2 in elite dangerous.
 
I'd suggest making sure the mouse works in the Galaxy Map. I navigate it just fine with my HOTAS controls, but not everyone will think of changing their navigation / movement controls from standard.
 
I can now stop trying to get the current version of elite working on the cv1, this is excellent news! Phew! That was a very close call.

I bet £530 on the rift being supported in Elite (my choice) and I would have no regrets either way, but this is truly excellent news that we'll have Elite running on day one.

It will be the same as the Steam Deluxe pack. The items are already available on our store. It's a perfect pack for someone that wants to get into the game but they aren't limited to just that platform. :)

Hi Zac !

Just one question: the version on oculus store will be the exact same version than the one on Steam's and Frontier's store ? I mean will it include compatibility for both the Rift and the Vive ?
