General / Off-Topic Favorite Sci-Fi weapon

That should technically count as a 'weapon'

Whoa.. that is pretty cool. What is it? Where's it from?

I don't believe it! That was exactly what I was going to suggest as my favourite weapon!
It looks like a "Sunbeam" from the Lensman series of books.

Sunbeam: In Second-Stage Lensman, an entire solar system is converted to a vacuum tube, with asteroids and planets as grids and plates, to focus nearly the entire output of the sun into a beam capable of melting the surface of a planet in seconds. This is, in Solar terms, the conversion of 4.26 million metric tons per second of matter into energy, or 9.15 × 1010 megatons of TNT per second. Thus, it is a defense against attacks by "free" planets, which are rendered inert when their Bergenholms (inertialess drive units) are destroyed. The Sunbeam is an ultrawave vacuum tube rather than a normal one. This is demonstrated by the fact that its beam moves faster than light and can be retargeted on different objects in the outer reaches of the solar system in a matter of seconds.

Think about it. The ENTIRE output of the Sun focussed into a beam. Nothing could withstand it for more than a few seconds.

Half Life 2's Gravity Gun was great fun last time I played though the game, but for sheer complete off-the-wall brilliance, nothing beats the weapons out of Armed and Dangerous...

Well, how about a weapon that exists today?;

Also, how about the singularity grenade from the 'Gap' series, by Stephen Donaldson? Weighed about 500KG (so tricky to throw), and needed a strong blast of energy to trigger it (so a powerful energy weapon was normally needed to initiate it), but on one occasion Angus Thermopyle left one in a main thruster tube of an Amnion warship. Unfortunately it was in an asteroid field when it fired up the engines, and now a stable black hole is there instead!

I would also want (as a personal weapon) the Iron God Killer (from Drive Angry), especially if it had Amber Heard carrying it around for me!

In general I love sniping in FPS. So I'd have to say sniper weapons, preferably with silencers.

It 's not scifi, but in Vampire the Masquerade I love to use my fangs and suck pesky enemies dry :).
Much, much more satisfying and personal than any laserbeam.

Mass Effect series had a whole range of beautifully designed weapons that felt unique.
My all time favourite from that game series is the Mattock. It was not an automatic, but it packed a punch and just felt right.

Watchdogs featured a futuristic revolver design with a very satisfying feel and sound to it.
In general the weapons in Watchdogs felt great.

I also loved the on the fly modularity of the Crysis weapons. When I experienced that for the first time I fully expected every other shooter to implement that system, because it is just awesome. Never happened though.
