Im thinking they dont understand the game, or what its about. Its sad that the "PvEers" think that Open is PvP, but those in Private groups are such a small fraction onf the player base....i wonder if anyone would even notice if they stopped playing

lol, I am quite sure there are more private group gamers than Open gamers in ED. And sry but Open is PVP, becasue the the pilot in open is who decides if PVP happens or not, there is no way that PVP will not happen if one of both doesn't wants it to happen. It's all about the merciy of the other to not make PVP happen.
I dont think you undertsand the game at all.

Open isnt pvp, i mean if you are doing a CG expect some resistance from a player group trying to stop it from happening. its political. i MAY get attacked here and there but usually can escape if im caught in a sticky situation. but running into players is fun, thats why many CGs have support forces keeping the lanes clear, intel being passed, anchors being placed. i mean hell the odds are in your favor and against any pirate or enemy forces

every attack, even if you escape is already PvP. I doubt you even know what PvP is after reading that reply.

it has 20k people invited, and people only get invited when they want to be invited which already emans that there are 20k people who considered to not play open regulary yet wanting to play it multiplayer as a PvE mode.

if someoen wants to mostly spend his time in open he wouldn't have a need to go to the mobius grp.

I don't have access but i never applied. And i am with what AA said. Open is not Open PvP. I have participated in PvP in open and have enjoyed it but the vast amount of my time has been spent playing in open PvE. Trading in open, working the background sim in open, leveling up my ranks in open. I enjoy open because I wanted the ability to interact with players. Whether that interaction has positive or negative outcomes for me I enjoy it. But that is how I enjoy the game and because I enjoy the game one way doesn't make it THE way to play. That's why I am fine with groups like Mobius because they are a group of players that want to enjoy the game in a completely valid format and it's not up to me to force change upon them.

what? have you ever played on PVP server sin other games? you are never "forced" to PVP, but at any point except maybe some safezones around starter cities or vital social areas is PVP disabled. Open is raw PvP as it is in any other PvP MMO.

What I am saying is that in games like CQC and Modern Warfare there is only one online option, and that is to shoot the opposing team members. That is the objective of the game and that is how you "win" or "lose". In Open if i get pulled over by a CMDR and I am not prepared or feel like PvP at that time I simply submit, hi-wake. I did not "win" or "lose" and I can still continue to play the game. I don't get a screen that informs me that I have won or lost and there is not a clear cut benefit from fighting or running.

yes and this also defines PVP, so even private and solo gameplay is in a tiny effect PvP, but it is no direct player vs player contact.

But this behavior has nothing to do with PVP or not. 2 players acting against each other is PvP the degree doesn't matters if its just a race for score,s the failed attemp to kill you or steal your stuff. The games you describe are PvP only, but that doesn't means a game offering PvE in a PvP environment makes PvP optional.

Not an option, PvP starts happenign the moment someone triggers an interdiction, or starts shooting at you at res, CZ or wherever. The result if someone reaches it's goal of the PvP actions is not relevant to the act beign PvP or not.


I can't believe that we need to make some basic discussions what PvP even is.

Once again, I am not denying that open has PvP. It does have PvP. A lot of it. But that's it Open HAS PvP. Open does not EQUAL PvP. Sometimes Open = PvP but Open does not have to = PvP. That's why I am saying Open is not PvP. In a PvP game that is the single solitary purpose of the game. In Elite Dangerous it does not. And yes I have played games that offer PvP at times. If Open was a Server it would have PvPvE in the name. It's not one or the other. It's both.
