Bad Release point from Hyperspace HATCHOOE JA-J B24-1

I wasn't sure the best forum section to post this in, so I am putting it here.
The following information may be useful to those either trying to follow the Distant Worlds route to the far side of the galaxy, or for those on the return voyage:
Many of the systems between waypoints 19 and 20 that start with the designation HATCHOOE have secondary stars very close to the primary.
The worst of these that I have found is HATCHOOE JA-J B24-1. In that system the upper atmosphere of the primary and secondary stars overlap. The result of the overlap is that as soon as a ship with an active fuel scoop arrives at the star system, the scoop is saturated at maximum input, as it is drawing fuel from BOTH stars. The effect of the double scooping is a very rapid rise in heat. A ship arriving in the system with an active fuel scoop WILL take heat damage within seconds of arrival.

I don't plan on going back to that system, as I cannot afford any more damage on this expedition.

I thought heat just comes from proximity to the star, not from scooping?

Also, you can't scoop from both stars if you have your throttle zero'd. I don't scoop from the main star until I move forward.

That tutorial is of no use. The galmap does not given an accurate representation of where the secondary stars are and, even if it did, you don't jump in a straight line (just think of how many times your next system is directly behind you).

I don't think anyone has done a comprehensive test of jumping into close binaries, but anecdotal evidence suggests that the entry is either random or that because of the moving of the stars (and in a close binary they will orbit each other fairly quickly) a dangerous entry for one CMDR will be perfectly safe for another arriving later or vice versa.

My personal strategy is to embrace the random and live on the edge!

I tried the guide. It's inconsistent. You can never tell which side of the star you'll arrive at, and I've nearly been crushed by one that the galmap said was further out.

If we could do manual routes we could avoid binaries and aim for systems with one star in them.

Well,
At this point in the journey, I have passed waypoint 20, en route to waypoint 21, and have travelled over 58,000 ly. I have run into star systems with up to 6 stars in them, and that system is the first time I came out of hyperspace, and my scoop immediately opened, as I was sandwiched between two stars. The next time I take a long voyage like this, I think I will take at least 4 auto repair units... 1 just isn't enough.

I hear you, this was about 18 jumps ago, I came in right between them, got warning message right away just kept flying right through them(they are 3 ls apart), took minimal damage:

But for me, this is the exciting part of the game :)

I've been creating videos of my attempt to catch up to and join the Distant Worlds fleet. I started my journey a bit later than the rest (February 7). I may catch up tomorrow, or maybe later in the week. The first 14 videos are up, and I have several more. I decided a short time back that if I was going to have a chance of catching up and staying with the fleet, I would have to edit and post the remaining videos after I reach Beagle Point. I will be clipping the segment where I came out of hyperspace precisely in the middle of those two stars on a short clip as well...

Awesome. I look forward to seeing it. I left late too, just about to catch up tomorrow. Maybe I see you at the next WP or two or BP for sure :p

Fly safe commander and watch those close binaries!

thats why i have loads and loads of Heatsinks on board :D The last time i fell for one of those traps, i actually shot right through the secondary star as i came out of hyperspace. That was one of the scariest moments i had on Elite so far. Think i took around 30% heatdamage back then. From there on i always had a Heatsinklauncher at the ready, incase im about to hug a star again :D Now that you can shoot those in Supercruise they are even more useful than before.
