Pricing question

ED will have free expansions as well........ the major ones will be paid, the minor free.

I assume any ship DLCs will have to be free otherwise I cant see how it could work without being very fake pay walls.

I "suppose" they could do a free download for all so everyone can SEE the ships, and then you need to buy a licence to fly some of the newer ships, the licence being included in a DLC, but to be honest I think that would be a bit lame. (esp if someone purchased the EVA and boarding DLC but were magically unable to board a cobra MKIV because they did not buy the Cobra IV DLC)

SC has paid for DLC as well however. Maybe not in the PU, but in Squadron 42. (which for me personally IS the reason I backed the game, so from my point of view the ED costs are way better than SC, which will end up costing me more if i want access to all of the game I personally want to play.

edit, should have read thread completely before replying as it seems multiple got in before me and said exactly the same thing ;)

Hmm, why do you want to play SC mainly for Squadron 42? I mean for me personally, I'm excited for both SP and MP

Presumably the free SC expansions will be things like new star systems, which will be introduced to the game as jump points are discovered. These have to be free, otherwise it partitions the player base unacceptably.

I'm not even sure what the equivalent expansion in ED will be, since the entire galaxy is included in the base game (so it's fully expanded from day one, included in the price). But David Braben has mentioned that as our astronomical knowledge expands, the PG galaxy would be updated to reflect it. Again I would expect such expansions to be free, for the same reasons that the SC ones are ... it's the only practicable way to do it.

Not sure how to answer really. Each to their own, different strokes and all that.
But, I guess it is because I loved wing commander, strike commander and privateer.

I am NOT generally a fan of competitive multiplayer, but get the feeling that PvP will be a far bigger part of the game than ED, certainly looking on a lot of the threads on the SC forums (and the fact that, initially at least, there will be a LOT more playing with far fewer locations so it stands to reason that human contact will be a much likelier occurrence)

I am not interested in guilds and all that stuff, which is why I am so so glad they are discouraged in ED.

Dont get me wrong, I will try it out and I hope to be proven wrong, but I just feel for me ED is the better fit for the online side of things, and then I can play SC for some arcade Hollywood like cinematic action.

But I am invested in both so I am good which ever happens.

All of which is OT for this thread, am happy to take it further but may be best to post in another thread rather than derail the op :) )

not sure this is correct........ I thought some areas of the universe will be partitioned off for possible DLC expansion in the future.
