Summary of 2.1 "The Engineers" changes+additions from the dev updates and newsletters

Thanks OP! Good to see it all in one place.

May... I guess there isn't any rush to get back to populated space then.... [zZzZz]

Do we know if anything is going to be done with local storage at stations, and/or player to player trading - both things you might think would come with loot & crafting but has been pretty quiet on those particular items.

It seems like there will be some kind of storage, beyond the Materials suit storage, down the line. Not sure if it's in 2.1. I got the impression at various points that they're still figuring out how to do it. There is the suggestion that we'll be able to have some kind of planetside base down the line though:

  • Question: Can you conquer planetary bases? Brazen: Can attack, but can't have your own one. Not yet anyway.

You'd think that'd have storage.

They seem to be against player to player trading, beyond low level canister transfers, from what I can tell.

All they need to do now is announce that the ability to pay to have your ship brought to you will be in 2.1, and it'll be the best update ever.

Great summary of the changes, really looking forward to this update! (even if we don't get ship transporting in it :p)

Since we're discussing upcoming 2.1 changes and the devs are popping in, there is one ambiguous thing that I'd like to see a clarification on... when the large and huge lasers and multicannons were announced, it was pretty clear that the huge ones would all be fixed, but there was some ambiguity as to whether there would be gimballed large multicannons just as there are gimballed large lasers. Can anyone clarify?

hey Burny - here is the missiles change:

>Hello Commander geoffrey.hdt!

Well, with the introduction of the crafting system there will be, um, a number of interesting options for various weapons.

Also missiles are getting a revamp, preventing them from penetrating but allowing them to damage multiple external modules which includes drives, utilities and hardpoints (and we're adding another minor buff to their damage versus shields). <

I really hope that the bookmarks system has a way to create your own groups/folder headings, for example planets discovered, stations, good res sites etc, It did not look like it did from the recent peek of the week in the newsletter... if this is not a part of the bookmarking system it is going to get long and messy real fast..

Just don't bookmark everything, just the really important stuff. At least we are getting them, it's far better than what we have at the moment.

But my point is, if you are going to do something then why not do it properly. Such little extra work for such a massive boost in ease of use. It's been the whole problem with ED, half baked features.

I don't get the whole let's settle for it because it's better than nothing attitude.

Just my opinion of course.

Special guns

Engineers are found on isolated surface facilities

Exactly same job do "engineers" from F2P/MMO World of Tanks who build special ammo for "tomatoes".

Except that in F2P WoT (and in it's clones as well) you can buy special ammo for credits, while in P2P ED you can't buy special gun mods without payment.

According to Frontier Support Reddit account, scan and ram is fixed in 2.1 too

Thanks! Added it, including the "As far as I know"-s and "should be"-s. That doesn't sound too definite, yet. ;)

Breaking news: you can't use addon content without buying the addon. Of course such content will be used to get people to buy the addon, although the effects crafting will have on the meta are entirely unknown so far. If staying competitive in "persistent universe" PvP is a concern, you simply won't get around buying the addons, as in any other MMO out there that ties level cap increases/new equipment/abilities to addons. On the other hand, the game won't subtly (or not so subtly) push you into buying a premium subscription (War Thunder model) that's in the end significantly more expensive than just outright buying a full priced addon/season pass every year. And of course, doesn't take the days you actually play into account, but runs out from the moment of purchase (which I find most offensive about the War Thunder model actually).

On the other hand at some point you wont be as depended on P2W account as you are at your very start (not very sure about their recent changes in monetary policy). Half a year P2W account costs 22 EUR, and you still have to grind just like you do in ED. Or you can add 10-30 EUR atop of it to buy "Python 3300Y Edition +10% to mission rewards".

Do not forget that FD said about addons that they will be playable content with analogues in base game, not a locked down "premium" power multiplier. That was fraud, money scam.

And do not forget that in WT/World of [vehicle type] you get into matches with roughly comparable vehicles

Huh? What in Horizons is a power multiplier?

If you mean those bonuses you can get on ammo from synthesis, have you actually spent time trying to get the materials for it? By the time you have gathered enough for one round of ammo you could have made several million doing something else.

Not quiet...

It's 40€, putting the full year at 80€ (minus 5 days). Almost twice as much as you'd have payed if you bought ED at the last winter sale and bought Horizons as season pass now.

Considering there is no announced "Python 3300Y Edition +10% to mission rewards" that's purely speculation and fear on your part.

More speculation and fear on your part with added drama. The simple truth of the matter is: if you want to play the game, you will have to pay for it. You can't expect the game's development to halt, just because some people are even too cheap to buy the coming seasons during sales. No "fraud" or "scam" here. Simple truth of MMO development. Or is it common for MMO addons to avoid adding any meaningful features, lest they could create an open PvP imbalance between addon owners and vanilla players?

And do not forget that in WT/World of [vehicle type] you get into matches with roughly comparable vehicles
I also haven't forgotten that neither game is an open world quasi MMO, which by its very nature implies that everybody can go everywhere with any vehicle they have, unlike in the mentioned arena games.

Yes, I'm sure the forums are burning down over at FF14 because Heavensward owners are lvl60 and have twice the item level of vanilla players ;) Oh wait, they are not, because this is how expansions for multiplayer games work. And I'm pretty sure that aside from some shady pricing that went on with GW2, nobody riots because the expansion seals off areas from base game owners.

But all this has been mentioned various times, and people still are up in arms against it. I just file it under "old dog" and "new tricks".
