Money isn't everything (Anaconda's not all that)

I am bemused by the hate for the Asp. When I first flew it, many moons ago, it was an exhilarating experience. For so many tasks it is a superb vessel. One can get fed up with it, but it's a brilliant ship. Great sound, too, if you appreciate WW2 bombers....

Oh, and everyone hates the Keelback. People who like it are only pretending to like it

Naw, I like the Keelback fine, but in a limited respect at this point.

I like its functional workhorse look, it's got a decent enough range for exploration and can at least defend itself against NPC interdictions.

So as a planetary lander that can defend itself well enough to reach a station to drop off its data, it's just fine.

As anything else... not so much ;)

However, I'm also interested in what the Engineers can do for it.

I bought one to try my hand at mining. Needs a massive maneuverability buff, as it has those huge vectored thrusters on the sides. It can have a fighter bay... but why bring 2 awful ships to a fight vs. 1 good one?

Some masochists enjoy flying the Federal Dropship. But I have never heard anyone say good things about the Federal Gunship.

I like flying my Federal Dropship in combat zones when I don't feel like using my anaconda :p

I don't own the other federal ships (yet) so I can't speak of them.

I've heard it said that the FGS is highly maneuverable in supercruise, and I know first hand that it is a nightmare to whatever happens to be in its forward target zone. It has at least those two things going for it.

Biggest thing keeping me from an Anaconda compared to python is losing outposts. Single biggest asset of the Python (and the most OP, imo)

Generally speaking, I've noticed that people have very little good to say about the Orca, Type 7, or Keelback. I myself think that the Hauler is a sad little ship whose only real utility is for cheap transport from A to B when you intend to sell it at your destination. It's like a fat space shuttle and about one tenth as cool.
Yes, but the Hauler is the only ship with old skool navigational lights. I have a soft spot for that.

I'm rather content with my small collection of the Asp Explorer - Adder - Fer-de-Lance. Sadly two of those are probably the most popular ships in the game. Damn, I hate being mainstream! Can never sell the Asp though. It's a must since FE2. Love the Adder and the FdL is classy, and if I buy a Hauler again, I'm a Zorgon-Peterson tramp! (save for the Asp..phew.)

Personally I dislike the Anaconda. It's ugly and I've lost to a few. Yes I know, one should easily outrun them, but I was blinded by the lights of the beast on the highway.

I use a T7 for exploring (a bit more like surveying the way I play it) .. love it as a slow boat.
Reminds me of a winnebago / camper van, but actually I picture a research vessel.

That's not why I'm posting though .. please see Imperial Eagle, interceptor!

Nuff said? It's possibly because I haven't really got to grips with Viper/ Cobra but I love taking out Clippers in. Difficult. Not always successful! And often RTB only just, on critical hull, then get fully repaired for 3,000cr (!) And oh yes, a blast during civil wars.

edit ---

Worth a pic I think. Please (hope you don't have to) say hello to interceptor, "So, Corpse"

It would be very strange if that wasn't the case. ZenZak has the right idea, you have to spend a while with any ship to get the best out of and appreciate it. Have never understood those posts that start with 'I bought X ship and immediately sold it! I hated it!' :/

Yeah true, although quite a few do like it. I still have my original T7, managed to get myself into and out off so many scrapes flying in open back in gamma and early release, the ship taught me a lot about survival against the odds in open.

There are definitely fans of every ship, and it is definitely possible to learn to like a shipthat you once hated. There are limits however. For instance, I learned to appreciate the Asp, but the engine noise in the turns and boosts still sounds like a gassy heifer with a bad motor.

But sometimes it doesn't take long to realize a ship has no place in your fleet. I gave the Anaconda a fair shake, but first impression never changed. Just seemed too plain and lacking personality. (Even the Python has a more interesting bridge). Big lumbering tank ships that cycle through enemies on auto fire with overwhelming turrets. About as fun as putting the ADS on a macro to go exploring.

I guess my favorite ships are the ones that feel authentic. I really like the lumbering freighter-feel of the T7 and the T9 and their cage-like downward cockpits. And the keelback engine sound has got to be one of the most glorious noises I've heard in the game, and is so stately and solid sounding when breaking free of a planet's gravity well. I really do like the KB a lot, despite its obvious flaws. My two other favorites are the FDL and the Sidewinder. And I have no idea why but the Cobra Cockpit feels like home even though I barely fly one, and virtually ignored it when I was a new pilot. It just feels the kind of ship I'd fly if I was really there in ED. An all-purpose survivor.

I don't understand why anyone would fly an Orca other than in an ironic, space-hipster way.

I was actually pirated by a CMDR in one a few weeks ago [wacko] I was in my tanked Vulture. It didn't go well for him. They did put on a lovely buffet at his wake though.

Sorry no love for the Anaconda at all. To easy target and not really good at anything above other ships.

Ships I own I have uses for Asp, Diamondback explorer, Python and Imperial Cutter (Reduced to oversized but well defenced cargo hauler replacing T-9).
Would own Vuture, but do not have time for much combat.

Ships I have enjoyed flying T series cargo haulers, Diamondback and Asp.

Personally I hate the Asp. It's just 50-odd metres of spaceship with no personality whatsoever. It's a flying Morris Marina and should only be available in beige

what sounds like a good old airplane in space, flies like nimble ninja and is ugly as hell? ASP. if that ship just would look better.

Anaconda for me has the same issue, loos nice from top, but that ugly cube below it -.- shiiiiit. Internals and flight as well as weapon hardpoints are really nice especially the ones on the deck look awesome. But the uglyness cannot make it my ship of choice.

Oh, and everyone hates the Keelback. People who like it are only pretending to like it

Well similar to some cats that may get fat and lazy when being castrated, it feels like the keelback is a castrated viper. suddnely ugly, fat and lacks the pew pew.

Cdr Voorheez's signature had convinced me to break the bank and buy an Anaconda when I get back to the bubble....

That image sells a lifestyle that I wanted a part of, lol :)

OP has got me thinking again though. My Asp will have about 250 Kylies on the clock by the time I get back....she's not much of a looker, but she's a tough old girl, and that cockpit view at 80 FOV is amazing.

I'm honestly not sure why it exists except for reasons of "Oooh, Shiny".
