OP updated with new maps.

All maps now include the "far east" and "far west" parts of the galaxy.

High resolution maps has been added - now up to 18000x18000 pixels!

Loving it. I hope it's coming to EDD soon too, it'll save me having to forever check which arm is which since that seems to be one of those odd nuggets of information that refuses to lodge in my head

If you restart EDDiscovery it will download updated galaxy maps.

Fun to see my trail on the annotated map (Galaxy_L_Grid in EDD)

Any chance of getting them linked to the cartographers thread? Tried to find them again earlier today and my Google-foo failed me. Thanks to Marc (Qohen Leth) for sending me the link again.

Also any chance of getting overlays for grids and the community-names for regions and POI's for these?

I´ve just written to drkai and asked him to link to these maps from the community cartographics thread.

There is a single map with grids and community-names (it is the first one in the OP).

As for adding grids and names to the other maps… The Galactic Mapping project will undergo a major overhaul this summer. The plan is to use these maps as a basis for the POIs submitted by the community. But making that transition is gonna be a major undertaking so no ETA on it yet.

OP updated with new galactic overview maps. Compared to the crisp and clear files I have on my computer the ones I can share with you via imgur suffer somewhat from jpg artifacts... Does anybody know a way around this?

(Original png files are app. 55 mb).

You could make the original files available (read only, obviously) via something more file-share-y than picture-share-y, e.g. Dropbox gives you 2GB in the free version, so anyone who wants to see the full glory can download a copy that way.
