TrackIR in Alpha 1

Hi, I'm currently learning to fly in the Alpha 1 that Mr Braben gives you while you wait for the premium beta to launch. I am expecting delivery of a TrackIR tomorrow can any of you TrackIR users remember if TrackIR was supported in the Alpha 1?
I'm Holding my breath

I tried but it's not working correctly by default.

Don't know if it can be already fixed in some way but it's only a month to the Beta so I'm going to live without it.

Thanks Theagan
Damn, thats what happens when I assume stuff. I'll go back to Alpha 1 times in the forums and see if I can find a fix to get it working, though it might be behind the alpha forum wall. I'll be back

You definitely can use TrackIR in Alpha 1. Although it has some minor problem, which need workaround. E.g. you might need to invert yaw axis (may be other axes as well, however I do not exactly remember if other axes required inverting). Also you will probably have to turn off X, Y and Z axis as otherwise you might easily get out of the cockpit borders, which disturbs. It also was not possible to focus on UI panels in Alpha 1.

All this issues were fixed in Alpha 2.

I just got the premium beta this weekend and set up TrakIR.
It works, but the default settings are bad.
As Theagan said, some of the axes are reversed. You'll need to invert the Yaw and Roll rotation axes. Additionally, the translation is too much, and you'll find yourself sticking your head through the cockpit canopy if you shift around in your seat too much, so you'll need to turn down the sensitivity on the translation, and add limits about where the glass is.
All of these are fairly easy to do in the TrakIR settings. You'll just need to copy the profile and create a new one for Elite. It took me maybe 10-15 minutes to get it all working well.

It is possibel to get it to work, but it takes more time than other programs.
First of all, turn all the axies off.
then select 1 at the time. and test it, you will probably find that it is overly sensitive, and even looking in the wrong direction. Adjust the curve way down, and reverse the axis if needed, probably yawaxis.
Then tenporary disabel the axis as you go trough the other ones you need.
So in essence consentrate on 1 axis at the time, that helped me a lot.

good luck

Thanks everybody, just read a 29 page forum thread about TrackIR with the alpha 1.
The good stuff starts on page 15 here's a link straight to it

Commander Maxim Jameson did some spiffing work providing a TrackIR profile to use with Alpha 1.
Will try it tomorrow when my TrackIR gets delivered.

It seems that frontier design wrote a better TrackIR profile and added it to Alpha 2. I completely understand why us premium beta people cannot get the alpha 2 but I wonder if they would consider publishing just their TrackIR profile for us premium beta people to use?

Once again thanks everyone.

The changes to TrackIR were implemented in the game. I am using default TrackIR profile without any changes.

Many thanks Aleksej for your help, I will try it out tomorrow. I guess we will get full implementation on the 30th May, it's going to be a long month.

Despite imperfections that TrackIR had in Alpha 1, it was still very useful back then.
