Mining in a HazRez - Does anyone do it? And if so what build do you use?

By yourself....dunno I get scanned every 2-3 minutes.
The one haz rez I did try to bring a mining laser to,frankly I expected better rocks like paintite, platinum
granted I only tested a few rocks did not like the pickens and went hunting instead

I also mine in a Pristine HazRez, though I don't mine often. When I do, I actually prefer the AspX believe it or not. She's a perfect little miner that can defend herself if cornered, decent speed and great jump range. I like her A-Rated to get out of trouble if needed, but staying near the 20km line seems to work pretty well!

No refinery?

Well, two things:

Firstly I learned from the other posts in this thread to stay in the 15-20km range when mining this means you don't get scanned all the time, just occasionally and you can avoid it if you pay careful attention to your scanner and move away in time.
Secondly, sounds like you might have just been mining in any old hazrez, for large amounds of painite, platinum etc, you need to mine in a hazrez which is in a metalic pristine ring which can be located here:

Well, I just gave a try and it was pretty awesome.. I went with an Anaconda in the end with 1000MJ bi-weaves, killed about 8 NPCs while I was mining and did almost regret not having a faster ship when an anaconda with a bunch of smaller ships eventually sniffed me out while I was 19km out. Nevertheless very doable and much more exciting+profitable that normal mining.

Very nice!
Now that you have experienced it.....mining any other location will be boring in comparison...

My friends and I do this as a wing.

2x Keelbacks who hunt for good 'roids and mine them.
1x Python with hybrid combat/cargo load out. When the keelbacks have a hold full of metals they drop them for the Python. In between times the python acts as an escort.
1x FDL Purely as an escort. Usually best to look for pirates before they scan your colleagues, but stay close enough so that you don't get split up.

We have great fun with this, there are probably better ways to make money, but it is fun, and everyone ends up with at least a few mil at the end of the night.

I can't see how you'd get much time to mine. Even in a nav beacon if you have limpets the sky quickly turns red once the first pirate scans you and the rest pile in. All you'd be doing is taking constant time outs to fight.

Has anyone actually worked out what the bonuses are for mining in the different RES sites?

Because I've worked out the off RES site bonus with just prospectors and an A spec one gives a 3x bonus, makes me wonder if the bonus people see in RESes is actually due to the RES or the prospector.

I mine in HazRez all the time. Though I always stay around 20 km + away from the center. From my experience the sweet spot for best yield is always around 25-30 km.

20 KM is where the HazRez ends. You're practically mining in a place equivalent to a random ring drop.

I'm very familiar with mining metalic pristine rings with prospectors and last nights experience suggests you get about double the fragments than with normal prospectors.

Not quite true, you get a message at 30km saying your "report crimes" has started working so that's where they completely end. I think the mining bonus drops steadily from 20km though.

Double was about what I'd heard, I tried it briefly but I got chased away before I could do a thorough test. 80-100 fragments per roid is pretty fantastic though, now if they could make some missions that actually requested a large amount for a big payday instead of having to scum the boards i'd really be in.

Still, I enjoy mining more than anything else atm :p

I don't know where it ends, and honestly don't care, because this "border" feels like a cheap trick, but from my experience best yield is at the said location (I am talking about mining from a sidewinder to a A-graded python).

Why would anyone farm any Rez location since it has nothing to do with the drop rate of what you are mining?

This is why I mine in a Haz Res, 40 minutes worth of work and headed in to cash in....not the highest earning profession in game but 10 mil for 40 minutes isn't bad....

I go in with a python. Two mining lasers, a prospector and 8 collectors. I hang around the 20k limit, sample as many as I can until I find that Painite or plat, its well worth hunting for the One. You can get such a huge yield from one good roid in a hazRez.
It keeps me on edge though. Things can get out of control real fast. As soon as you spot something heading towards you, you need to make the choice whether to fight or run.
As JRB has shown, its well worth it for more exciting mining.
Not as predictable as non rez, but if you get left alone you make a huge profit. However sometimes I have been jumped within a few mins (usually just as I discover the 50% Painite Rock hehe). It makes is less routine.

I think I remember reading in a patch note that RES sites are meant to have higher chances of spawning painite.

Well they seem too. It never takes me long to find painite or plat and when you do the yield from that one roid is huge. sometimes as many as 70 or 80 frags.
