I'm looking to gain access to Alioth. What's the minor faction I need to build rep with?

Alioth Independents I think

You can find them (outside Alioth :p ) at:

78 Ursae Majoris
Ethgreze
...probably a couple others as well, but those two are the most populous, so (in theory) more missions to gain rep

edit: bah, I need to type quicker

Ah, well Wedgetail, you've made my job easier by pointing me to those systems, so nothing in vain. :)

Thanks. :)

with my second account, i went bountyhunting in alliance space, got allied to 3 local factions by claiming bounties (always moving on after getting allied with the controlling faction) - so i got allied with the alliance. than i went to an Alioth Independents representing station, and took their invitation. was more fun this time, than running a lot of missions.

Alioth Independents or Phekda Society... I did missions for both many moons ago when I got access to Alioth :)

No idea what's happened to Phekda since some little known player faction was granted this as a home system and lore be damned :(

Go to 78 Ursae Majoris, and head over to Rominger Dock.
Look for a mission called "making friends and going places".

Phekda society used to give permits to Phekda, not Alioth.
.
Phekda has been given away to a group called the Ancients of Mumu. Whether this is a player group of one added by FD is unknown. But a permit is no longer required for Phekda
.
Alioth Independants are also present in Phekda, so you can do missions for them there too.

It was a long time ago I did the Alioth permit thing...during our GPP version in July/August last year. I'm old now and the braincells are collapsing by the hour :(

Do missions for Alioth Independents. Preferably from Phekda because I'm trying to flip that system from 'The Ancients of Mumu' to 'Alioth Independents'. The 'Ancients' own all the orbiting stations in Phekda and one planetside colony so don't do any trading in Phekda because you'll be helping them out. The 'Ancients' are currently at 55% influence (dropping) and Alioth Independents are at 29% (rising). Hopefully if that trend continues there'll be a war between them and some CZ's will pop up. The Alioth Independents will get a station one way or another if I have my way ;)
I don't think the 'Ancients' are a player wing - there's no mention of them on inara.cz
Cheers and thanks for any help :)

Asp or Orca? :)

Neither.

It's an RP choice that I've made.

I predict that something big is gonna' happen at the end of the year. I decided that I want to be involved with one of the larger powers in case that does happen. *cough* aliens *cough*

My choice has either put me in peril, or saved my :). Either way, I'm not turning back. I'm an Alliance National now, and I'm gonna' help our economy grow with my own mining and other commercial efforts.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure to spend some time in that system, though I will be splitting it with 78 Ursae Majoris, where I can gain rep' with the Alliance through raw trade & mining, which is still my main thing.

I'm in the process of getting my two Cobras (Mk III & Mk IV) shipped into Alliance space. My Mk IV is almost there, but then I'll have to take a Hauler back into LYR space to purchase & outfit my Mk III. (I'm not joining PowerPlay, just helping Alliance Minor Factions. As such I have no fear of visiting other power's space: I have no political agency, only legitimate business within my hold, which is all fine & dandy between nations at peace) Once that's done, however, I intend to start contributing to the Alliance's economy immediately.

Once you gain access to Alioth, gaining rep with the Alliance and staying Allied with them becomes much easier. Alioth is a bit like Sol;: it's chock full of space stations, and there are 5 native democratic factions offering missions.

Alioth also has the best discounts in the game (20%) if you're in the market for either an Asp or Orca. Go out to Irkutsk station for those. Irkutsk is the closest thing I have to a "home base", despite its fairly long travel time (about 6000 Ls) since three out of my six ships were bought there (two Asps and an Orca).
