Cannot buy discounted parts if sold to station

Flew my Cobra over to Diaguandri to trade it up for a smuggle-ASP. As I'm outfitting, Im noticing that I cannot purchase the "discounted" version of modules that I sold back to the station when stripping my Cobra. For example: I cannot buy the discounted A4 power plant (~1.3 million). It wont even show up. However, if I rebuy the A4 power plant I sold the station from my Cobra (~1.6 million), the discounted A4 power plant suddenly appears on the parts list, but says I cannot equip it because it is already on the ship. No matter what I do I cannot get the discounted power plant, amount other parts. When it is not equipped it is the only option I have for an A4 power plant, but when it is equipped I cannot purchase the now available discounted A4 power plant. It is like this with all of the parts that I sold to the station.

I tried logging out to see if that would make the parts I sold to the station disappear, but they were still there. Has anyone else run into this issue? It seems absurd that I cannot purchase a part on discount that is available at the station simply because I sold the same part back to the station previously.

Hi,
Right at the top of the list you'll get a buyback option. It's to stop people downgrading FSD or whatever and getting stuck in the system.

Either change the module class you want at a different station or wait 8-10 minutes until the outfitting list refreshes...

I just ended up going to a different station. Still odd that I cant buy the discounted version while the buyback option is still there.

I'm afraid that is an intended behavior. Otherwise people will be making profit in a way it is not intended...

The buyback option lasts about 20 minutes, so you either need to find another station to buy your discounted stuff or wait until the option expires. It's there to protect you from accidentally selling something that might or might not be available to buy back.

Buyback always takes precedence over the normal module list. As mentioned that's a good thing if your buyback module isn't available at the station or if it was actually cheaper than is available at the outfitters. However you can buy the discounted version if you equip the old module on another ship.

When trading up to a different ship as in this case your best bet would be to buy the new ship outright, buy the module then strip and sell the old ship. Alternatively you can stop off on the way and trade down the module, eg to a B4, at another station before visiting the discount outfitters.
