Neutralising the Unknown Artefact Threat CG guide

When you say I couldn't get it to work, what do you mean? the limpets do not grab?

To get it to work it seems you need to be inverted (upside down) very close to the ground and get the laser beam to hit the Barnacle structure at the base to throw the MA high enough so that the collector limpit has enough time to get the MA. It's probably easier in an Asp or smaller ship. I had a hard time trying to do it in a Python. If your not inverted the limpit will collide with the ground. Hope this makes sense.

Oh it's best to do it in a small ship huh. Well I've always loved a challenge! *Starts his T9*

Can you be more helpful than that? which barnacle sites for example.

Like none of them.

Also, limpet collection is doable in a python and quite a but quicker than via SRV.

E: i take that back. The ones in the big crater on jc-u b3-2 seem to be bugged. None of the others i've been to have logged me in at 22km.

Anyone noticed that the cargo-rack-reward magically disappeared?

Government denies knowledge!

ThinK about it this way: What´s the point to get a UA-stable cargo rack, if meanwhile the rest of your ship falls apart ;)

what i don't understand are the awards... why they are not listed ?
community goals are always like that ? how it works exactly ? (this is the first that i participate)

How the heck do you guys even find these without flying to the exact coordinates? I didn't get any poi's to pop up when I was cruising to the barnacle I've been farming.

Alright so. After a few hours. I can safely say I have mastered the art of limpet collection with a T9!

It's a very difficult task, the stupid lasers aren't positioned to make it easy to aim from such a short distance. However, after a few tries I managed to find the sweet spot.
Collecting 4 per minute right now!

Edit: well 4 in theory. But I'm way too distracted :p

You need the guys with the 4K Monitor to find the coordinates.

Maybe the B´s are out there since alpha, but nobody noticed them.

Many players did also not understand the given coodinates, because they wasn´t sailors or pathfinders before. The other ones wonder about the missing compass in orbitalflight.

But this is ok for me, in the old days you had to hunt a single Pixel in your C64 game.

I did not understand this kind of CGs. The game forces us to do this stupid loginlogout Tango. And even with that we could only reach the lower Tiers.

Same experience in the last Meta CG.

I love the game but this is....

I couldn't get it to work reliably, the meta-alloy fragment often won't get launched at all. So instead, I brought a hauler with just shield and 20T cargo. With a hauler, you become the limpet and I find it really enjoyable. If it works out well, you can just scoop the fragment out of air. If it launches too low, you ram it and then scoop it out of air. If it falls like a rock, you should be able to poke it into open space with the tip of your ship although it might not be worth the effort.

Fortunately they glow a bit, because it seems most are in a dark valley.

Yeah. Looking at the number of discovered barnacles, the galaxy's total known supply of these materials should be a bit less than 150 tons total, if we couldn't make them respawn every minute.

A friend asked me for guide for my hauler/viper meta-alloy farming without SRV nor limpets, so here it goes:
Ship build:
20T cargo Hauler http://coriolis.io/outfit/hauler/02D2A2A1D1D1D2C10--020201B6.AwRj-VRI.Aw19A===
40T cargo Viper mkIV (better in all aspects) http://coriolis.io/outfit/viper_mk_iv/03A4A4A2D3A3D4C0r-----0303B401012j.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==
Diaguandri - Ray Gateway is a convenient place to buy and outfit such ship.

Warning: The hauler doesn't have a fuel scoop and there is a 180Ly gap between the bubble and Maia. The best way to cross the gap is to refuel at 49 Arietis (or one of the other border systems) and then plot the path to Maia with cargo set high enough to have enough fuel for the trip (do double check). Alternatively you can make part of the trip in economy mode.

Once in Maia refuel and travel to you favorite barnacle site, I'm using the five barnacle crater:
5 easy to find barnacle sites are at Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 2:
They are in the biggest crater of the biggest crater on the planet, see pic below
site 1: [49.9090; 102.7212], heading to next 247
site 2: [49.7527; 102.1610], heading to next 300
site 3: [49.9889; 101.5127], heading to next 141
site 4: [49.5330; 102.0764], heading to next 129
site 5: [49.0657; 102.9324]

I just collect meta-alloys from all five barnacles, relog, repeat and then the cargo hold is full.

Collecting meta-alloy:
Beam laser the meta-alloy pod. Three things can happen:
  1. Meta-alloy fragment launches high. Scoop it from air.
  2. Meta-alloy fragment launches too low to safely scoop. Ram it so it gains more altitude or at least it falls outside barnacle site so you can scoop it from ground.
  3. Meta-alloy fragment drops like a rock. You should be able to poke it with the tip of your ship into open space and scoop it from the ground. It's up to you to decide whether it is worth the effort.

Then you have to deliver your harvest to Maia - that's a flight full of adrenaline as you are just a hauler full of valuable cargo in a system full of pirates :]

Hello,

Barnacle locations around the big crater on Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 1:

barnacle%20collection%201.bmp

The numbers refer to the indices on NetSlayer's spreadsheet.

Which would be far more interesting because that would mean the initial ones to get Meta Alloys from them first would be important for example when Cmdr Octo first found them i managed to get their and collect one meta alloy of the initial 4 of that barnacle.

Silly question maybe, but how do I hand the meta-alloys in? I have two tonnes in my hold and I'm at the station, signed up to the CG - but it says 0 tonnes contributed and I can't see a button to hand them over.
