A thread dedicated to one of the least mentioned ships in the game now it has been available for a while, the Viper Mk4.

I use her for exploration in this set up, and also swap out the AFMU for an 8T cargo rack for running light missions throughout the bubble.

A very versatile ship with a good solidness about it. Great range, adaptability and can hold its own in most PVE fights.

It also takes some great pictures and has a lovely look even in its stock paint.

I'm currently flying around in the Mk IV. after replacing my beloved Mk III. So far it's taking quite a bit of getting used to but it appears to be getting the job done.

I'm currently running an A rated set up focused around armour with a load out consisting of 2 x Small Fixed Beam Lasers and 2 x Medium Railguns. At this point in time though I'm considering swapping back to pulses and multi's.

This is my current configuration: Load Out

It's a solid ship but I'm still learning how to get the most out of it for bounty hunting.

Figured I'd give an update on my Mk IV.

I spent the evening in a Conflict Zone testing various configurations. Main alteration to my loadout has been swapping over to fixed Pulse Lasers in the Small slot.

It's a great little ship which can take a good knock. I've had little issue with taking down everything the CZ had available, however, I'll probably be ditching the Mk IV after I've gathered up some merits.

While it's a solid ship it just isn't suitable for the next step of my goals, however, once I've got more funds I suspect I will pick it up again and tweak my configuration to include an SRV to allow me to gather up materials for synthesising ammo thus negating one of my major grievances with my weapons of choice.

It seems to me to be the best combat capable multi use ship for early game missions. I have been using it for about 100 hours now with no end in sight. I may be wrong but I think the next fighter up from this is the Vulture which is quite expensive.

I haven't flown one but theory crafting has made the VMK4 a more attractive ship than the icourior. I can't get past the internal space plus jump range. Combat will always be the Vuture's domain for me. But the VMK4 seems like a very good utility ship. Almost line a mini python.

I did buy a Python for armed trading sometime after my Viper IV. I feel it was good practice for a Python, but the vertical and lateral thrusters in combat are so very useful with their heightened precision.

I certainly haven't sold her. I keep the Viper IV nearby a very nice system for brawling, but I'm quite prepared to travel further afield with her.

I don't feel all that enthusiastic about Vultures and I doubt I'll bother. I don't own a Diamondback Scout yet, which I think is the next monetary step up for a fighting ship, but I intend to pick one up to try out plasma accelerators.

Just bought one today and a rates it for BH, wracked in med pulses and small cannons, not ideal but works well against larger vessels, I did fancy rails but was put off buy only having 60 rounds to play with

I agree, it certainly is a great ship for taking on the "larger" enemy ships. I took on, and out, a Python and followed that with a Federal Assault Ship, which both interdicted me in very short time when I had taken on one of those keep hold of the goods missions. It has enough natural agility with two pips to all stats and keeping it in the blue to mostly keep on their tails with a little work. Just needs judicious use of the fire button then.

cant seem to upload a pic of me first viperMKIV. but i will have my say,. this is a very good all round ship, unless in a dogfight whith a clipper or somthing. its good for dogfights and good as a small cargo ship whith desent FSD. i recomend this ship in everybodys hanger.

Proud owner of a Viper Mk. IV and loving every moment of it! Currently trying to max it out as a bounty hunting ship, but my ultimate goal is to shoot for a Federal Corvette waaaaay down the line because I just love me some big ships. In the mean time though, this ship is a beauty! :) Managed to snap a few shots to share. It's just too bad that my hull was a bit dinged up because I took these after a huge scuffle at a High-RES

I'm using this as my main ship at the moment. I ended it up with it by default as I got a free one as a backer and thought I'd try it out.

It does seem a decent all round ship and I'm enjoying flying it. I'll be using this to build up some credits so I can get a more specialised exploration vessel.

It is a much underappreciated ship and as previous posters have said it could do with some paint jobs...

For what it is worth, L'il Beastie in post #2 is in the Black Friday freebie paint job that was gained if you pre-ordered Horizons.

I saw a thread, but I can't find it.

Apparently someone found evidence of paintjobs for the Viper.

Perhaps soon we'll get options? I can only speculate.

I recently came back to the game, cleared my save, and after grinding creds, I tried out all the new ships, flew my old standby Asp-E, I DBS'd, I vultured, I keelbacked(briefly).

Viper Mk. IV is my fav small ship. I fit it for heavy combat/pvp, but I can still do all the pve, including PP, base assaults, with minimal changes. My new CMDR name is Gunnsmoke, and I named my Viper Gunnslinger's Walk

My ship fit is my business ;)
