Why I am not buying a CV1.

It's so easy to spot the peanut gallery from those who have tried it.

Really, its awesome. You have legal rights to return goods you order from the internet. If you consider the hardware insufficient or the product too experimental then go back to the future where you belong! :)

Right now is the best time that VR has ever had. If it isn't good enough for you just wait.
It's also easy to spot a fanboi.

At least most in here that have a DK2 are making useful comments.

I will.

You are missing out and your excuses are based on internet speak instead of experience.

As a DK2 owner since they shipped, the only issue is sickness that some just cannot get over. Get yourself on the internet and seek out a demo place and give it a go.
I doubt you will as you seemed to have made your mind up and that is your right. But there is no need to walk into the fanboi's local and start a fight.

cant add further comment to the sound as I haven't tried the CV1, I can only reiterate what others have said.

9. With the DK2 my eye lashes constantly left smears on the lenses. I tried with glasses once but had no success. The CV1 is meant it be more glasses friendly however.

10. Exclusivity is a bit of a pain, but it's a limited thing for launch.

You should try to get a demo. Not sure where in the world you are but, in the UK, PC World have the Vive in most stores to demo.

i'm living in west Canada now, in Fact really close to Seattle (where Oculus headquarters are).. i wonder why i still don't see people wearing Cv1 on the street XD..

really i would like to see this thing of the VR with my own eyes and then decide.... part of me doesn't want to fail in the hype, still i think is early , pricy and and very probably this 1st generation of devices won't last long.

Definitely try to get a demo somewhere. I spent a lot of time researching the DK2, nothing prepared me for actually using it. It can't be described.

The plan was to hold off until the consumer version released, then my TrackIR broke.. Best thing that could ever have happened.

I remember when I used to have to get up of the sofa to turn the telly over. Then along came the remote.
I remember when I used to only be able to walk 3 foot from my phone before the cord stretched tight. I now have a touch screen PC in my pocket.
I remember when I used to watch 2D pictures of stuff. Now I'm in it.

And know that feeling of when you see a pic of something and you jokingly turned it on its side to look "in it"? You can do that an all.

It's a game changer for sure.
Maybe not for everyone.
But I thinks it's pretty damn cool.

Yup, it's worth a look regardless. I searched the web and the Oculus website, but don't see anywhere to demo the CV1. I'm in the US. Hopefully soon, there will be places to demo one.

As long as the DK2 is somewhat supported, I'll not buy the CV1... but I always planned that, even before the price of the final product was known.

Right now, I see no reason to even consider it...

Try a Samsung store. They'll probably have a Gear on display. It will give you enough of an idea.
VR isn't just viewing the game on a big screen, you are in the game. The first time I played ED in VR was a wow moment.

I've gamed for about 30 years and ED with a DK2 is by far the most immersive experience I've ever had. Don't buy a CV1 if that's your choice but, assuming you can afford it with relatively little financial pain, it would blow your mind. Sure, VR will get better and probably cheaper in the years to come, but it's already pretty damn awesome.

OT: What I really want to see is a game like Total War in VR... Being in a battlefield with thousands of other medieval soldiers...

You may know this already but supposedly Best Buy will have stock from 23 April so presumably they will have demo units.

Wow!

Do you write for EuroGamer? I was wondering where they got their article "Frontier drops Oculus and goes Vive Exclusive!" similar fact level and bias.

Well, it seems that the number of "why I'm not buying into VR" threads is far outnumbered by the "omg wow I got a vr headset and my mind is blown I'm never going back to a monitor" threads. It should be noted that the former are (almost, added for legal reasons) exclusively written by people who've never tried it. Everyone's entitled to an opinion of course, but Im very glad I listened to the omg wow camp and got one.

For pity's sake, before you start posting threads abouit why you won't get one, do yourself a big favour and try it. You will not regret it. I promise.

Anything that makes me have ANOTHER login/pass when it's NOT NECESSARY is bad.

why ? i still dont get what is so bad about that that its a reason not to buy it? its not like you have to manually login everytime you want to do anything.

you need the login because the runtime is in effect the oculus home system. ie the app store is built into it. it looks quite convenient actually.
the rift setup has been modelled on smartphones, ie, if you have an iphone or an android phone, you have to set up user accounts before you can do anything with it, the rift is no different to that.

Why I am not buying a CV1: Because my PC won't drive it and I can't afford a new one yet. Otherwise I would be ordering it right now.

The CV1 is the same price as the 22" CRT monitor I bought in 2000.

I don't understand why some people need to make such a drama out of not buying a CV1.

Ok but watch out, no idea how many they are going to produce, unlikely unlimited, and that means one day prices will skyrocket (see ebay, DK2), and if it is unlimited you could be looking at a long waiting list...

This statement is very strange, if the demand is there, they will produce as many as will sell. After all they are not going to run out of raw materials are they? If so, well we need to train as many starship pilots as possible :). True a newer model will come out but that does not mean you will not be able to get one, you will just get a newer one. Really confused by this comment.

And that is probably the reason most are holding back. However, they don't say that, preferring to trash the tech overall instead.
