Which do you think is better the Fed Assault ship or Gunship

I know the gunship is more expensive but in your experience which is the better of the two.
Which one is faster and more maneuverable?
I want this as strickly a bounty ship...I do not want jack of all trades

Let's re-visit this thread, when launchable fighters are a thing. (Okay, the FAS will still be faster & more maneuverable... but to evaluate which one is "better", we need a ship that is not stripped halve of its potential!)

The FAS handles like a small fighter, packs the punch of a large ship and is reasonably tanky. The gunship can theoretically do more damage and is basically a flying tank but the lack of manoeuvrability really hurts it compared to the FAS, I imagine it would be great in an actual space battle as a supporting role but as those don't really exist its kind of inferior to the FAS.

Also a properly outfitted gunship has a tiny jump range and needs to refuel every other jump.

IF it is purely for PvE 'big game' (condas, pythons etc) an argument could be made for the Gunship. Although it is slow and sluggish it packs far more firepower in terms of hardpoints, disributer and heat management.

Thing is the FAS is not much worse and is also capable of tackling small ships easily and engaging in PvP.

I was going to say exactly this. When I look at the Gunship its intended role is blatantly obvious; it's the heavy artillery that provides fire support for lighter ships.

However for a solo player (I don't necessarily mean in solo, just playing alone rather than with a well-practiced group and in tactical situations that don't really exist within the game to begin with) I can hardly think of any situations that the FAS isn't the better choice for.

Hopefully one of the expansions will add actual somewhat structured battles around things instead of the hairball CZs we have now

In Beta I tried all Fed ships and hated anything bigger than the Python. Although I settled on this I still much more preferred the Gunship due to the firepower but I made it fast by reducing the weight to a minimum as it has a good hull. It boosted well enough to keep up in HiRes. In Beta I hadn't spent enough time on the FAS to stretch the most out of it by power management until the release of Horizons. Now away from Beta I have climbed to eventually finding me the FAS (took a while!) even though there are many Gunships around. I worked out even if I did want to run the Gunship at a top spec but light weight it'd stil be around 100k cr and so I figured it's better the experience the FAS as it will be a more affordable rebuy and it's always best to go carefully before you go broke! I found the Python in Beta was starting to be costly and that was my deadline to not go further. You'd need to do trading in a 'Conda just to afford her ;)

if you are talking about PVP ---->100% FAS

less weapons sure, but faster and much more maneuverable. Speed and maneuverability are 2 very very important factors determining the outcome of a dogfight.

FAS is one of the best ships in the game, for pretty much any manner of combat. PVP, Res Farming, CZ's, Solo, Wing, whatever.

Gunship has fantastic hardpoint convergence. Quite fun really. It blows the corvette out of the water in this regard. But it's slow and lacking agility, much like the corvette. It's not that bad, just when you compare to the FAS it's a completely different beast.

Survivability in every situation - choose the FAS. If it can't kill it, it can get away. Res farming - whatever ship you feel like.
