Seriously guys.

If someone's got a transcript of the loooong recording, just pick out any sequence there and search for repetition. Doesn't really matter what length you pick out, as long as you don't over do it.

If a string repeats, then we MIGHT be on to something.

Before this is looked at, I wouldn't bother with it.

e: it, i'm looking into the one that's on the last page.

e2: I tried finding a few 5 character length sequences in there and indeed most of the ones i tried are found 6-10 times. I'm guessing 5 is too short

Complex stuff. T many combinations.

The pattern for AWARNING can be partly found in message 2.

.-.--.-.-.-...-.--. (AWARNING)
.-.--.-.-. (AWAR)

After that it changes. I don't know if this is because of the crackling or if the parts are randomized+

Nowhere near long enough to be meaningful, I'm afraid (see above, where I found the word MAIA in a completely random 30 byte string of morse). It would be weirder if the string AWAR -didn't- appear somewhere.

I feel a signature is appropriate.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that the lack of THE was anything definitive... as you can see from my posts over the last day there are plenty of reasons that I can think of that we should be cautious about being too interested in the original warning message and any other words we discover in these patterns.

I appreciate people looking for words, but I should mention I'm looking for contextual support for those words.
For example: "Enemy testings Maia" is 3 consecutive words pulled out. no odd letters.

Finding words can be helpful, but only if the surrounding morse code can build upon it.

it kind of sounds like palin had the right idea with the shelters... Im wondering how this is suppose to work though ... we take heike tea, a UA a shelter and some biowaste to a barnacle ?

I think MB should not be involved because this is part of the discovery. We're not children in a playpen, looking to be redirected by our 'parents' whenever we chew on the wrong thing. We're explorers and we have to be able to contain our excitement enough to stand back and say ''hey, maybe there isn't anything here. Maybe we thought we were close but we really weren't.''

The emergence of the truth when found by us alone is FAR more fun than if we get direction and hints from the Gods of this universe ;)

Even short phrases are very easy to find at random as some of my earlier posts on the subject demonstrated. And 'testings'? Bit of a stretch.

Find me a long coherent phrase of more than a few words and then we're maybe cooking with gas.

As a head up 240 pulses take up about 80 mins of recording time which is long enough for:
-.-..-.-.--.--.------..-..-.--.....-.--.--..-...---.-.------....-.-..---.....-.---.----.-.-------..-....-.-.-..-.-.--.--.-..----.-.-.----....-..-.-..-.--..-...--...--....-.....-...-.---.-.--.--..----.----.-.--..--..-.-..-.--.----.....-.....

or:
Cryptography prior modern age synonymous encryption converting readable information to apparent nonsense

Wishing I had posted this at a later date now... also hoping the devs didn't play and april fools by changing the barnacles recording for the day.

Anyway I got some sleep and listened to Bitstorms new recording (only about 3 mins) and got:
..-.--..-.-..--..----.-.-..-.--.--.-..-.----.-.--...-.----..-.-.-.-..--..-..-.-..-.-.-.-.--.--.--.-.-....--..-.-.--.-.-..-----.--...-..---.---....-..-.--....--.-...-.-.--.-.---.----..-..--.-.-.-.-.-...--.-.-.-..--.-.--.-..-.-..- - - .- -.-. -.-
.-..-.-..-.--...-.-.-.-.--.-..--.-.--...-.-

I pulled a couple words out of it (while keeping the code in order):

..-.--..-.-..--..----.-.-..-.--.--.-..-.----.-.--...-.----..-.-.-.-..--..-..-.-..-.-.-.-.--.--.--.-.-....--..-.-.--.-.-..-----.--..
. -. . -- -.-- Enemy
- . ... - .. -. --. ... testings
-- .- .. .- Maia
.-.--.-.---.----..-..--.-.-.-.-.-...--.-.-.-..--.-.--.-..-.-.
.- - - .- -.-. -.- Attack
.- ..-. - . .-. After
--...-.-
.- .-. -- . -.. Armed
--.-.--...-.-

I'm going to keep going at it in my free time which is minimal over the coming weekend. It'd be nice for a comparison from someone.

Also I'm bouncing between http://morsecode.scphillips.com/translator.html and http://www.ericharshbarger.org/epp/2010/unmorser.html now. I'm just worried that the unmorser won't be able to pull names or numbers out of the code.

Nice, I am glad you are back.

Was beginning to think you went AWOL, it was looking a bit odd.

Obviously some of the discussion is over whether a pure random string of binary could produce a seemingly meaningful sentence.

But regardless I think this is the strongest lead for a while, so whether it goes anywhere or not it's an good think to explore!

Thank you for reminding us Michael.

With regard to the recording I made last night, I was after repeating patterns. That simulcrae and I both came up with almost identical high-low strings from the recording says that it is clear for the most part. I've had a brief stab at analysis but only come up with the same things others have already noticed. That you can pick and choose words without any meaning or context.

I do know I could be working with gibberish, for example:

..-.--..-.-..--..----.-.-..-.--.--.-..-.----.-.--...-.----..-.-.-.-..--..-..-.-..-.-.-.-.--.--.--.-.-....--..-.-.--.-.-..-----.--...-..---.---....-..-.--....--.-...-

They also have someone named Palin to be the carrot to get us donkeys on the right track if we go off it. (not saying we're donkeys)

Anyway do we need a longer recording of the Barnicles? As that is the thing that will take the most time to do for me and I would prefer to know sooner rather than later and I am fine with doing it.
