I frequently see either "Mobius is sucking the life out of open" or "Mobius is an insignificant less than 2% of the player base and so can be ignored", so which is it?
There's not really a contradiction here. Yes Möbius is a minority of the whole, but they are also a significant portion of the organized community. Just imagine if the 20,000 players hiding in Möbius were suddenly visible at community goals? That would massively alter the dynamics of the game.
If even 1% of those players decided to protect CGs as bounty hunters, then groups like SDC might be "complaining" of being "harassed" by armies of do-gooders. Not that they would mind it one bit.
Personally I can empathize with both extreme stances, and while I respect people's right to play they way they want, I also think that something is lost when the community is splintered and segregated like it is now.
But there is no brute force solution that can be made now that won't result in a loss of players. So the only solution I can see is for Frontier to slowly and gently coax players into Open with at least some bare bones assurances of relative safety in high sec, and if course some acceptable in-game (non-banning) punitive measures for hardened criminal types and sociopaths.
But never forcing anyone to do anything they aren't OK with, or out outright banning players who haven't violated any rules and are just playing the game their way too.
So far, this seems to be Frontier's long term strategy.
