Care to elaborate? Haven't followed the CVs launch all that closely but haven't heard about major hiccups.

Try reading the Oculus forums... it seams that, aside from a couple of Kickstarter backers and one kid in Canada - which got the CV delivered by OVR's CEO in person - many people got their orders pushed back by weeks to months without much of an explanation.

I'll pass - heard about the cancellation of orders when the billing and delivery address didn't match.

Glad I didn't pre-order anyway after checking out oculus home using the DK2 and finding out I can't even select anything using M/KB/HOTAS/Wheel/Pedals without using an Xbox controller emulator.

I did raise the concern games might be poorly optimised for anything but an Xbox controller - didn't expect that level of patronising though.

Yea, thy are really playing it close to the chest... you basically have no control over anything. No hardware configuration, no nothing. Oculus Home is essentially a gaming console interface. It's not even multi tasking enabled, so VR utilities like Virtual Desktop are hardly usable. It also heavily communicates with Facebook services, as some people found out.

Thanks all for voting! Quite interesting results so far.

After a full 24 hour cycle! Of the 85 people who have voted:
~70% of our active VR forumites have taking the plunge and gone for the next gen
~30% want to wait and see or would like to hang on to their DK2 for a bit longer for whatever reason

I wonder how representative these numbers are?

Bit of tinfoil hat comment there, that's not what has been found at all. In fact, from reading about it, it seems it's primarily version checking and friend list pinging. Let's not let that get in the way of a "OMG, Facebook are stealing all my datas" conversations though. ;)

Isn't Oculus Home basically just an optional portal? I mean you don't need it for ED, for example, is it required for other stuff? Genuine question, as I don't know. That aside, VR should actually have a(n optional) simple interface to your stuff like this - just from an ease of use perspective. I don't think there';s anythign wrong with the concept, it seems more on an implementation issue. And it is poor, I agree, if it's the case you need an XBox controller, or the CV1's little remote control thing, as they should really be offering at least limited support for all their old DK2 users (up to a point, of course).

Missed that post, but again you're incorrect. You obviously have a beef about Oculus but they haven't even stated specific new delivery dates in their communications so how people have been pushed back "months" - no idea how you managed to work that out except by making it up.

To show they do actually respond to stuff like this - "First set of Rifts are going out slower than we orig estimated, so we're giving free shipping for all pre-orders, including international." - nice little discount... well, except for the petulant children that a few extra weeks for an unnecessary toy is getting them all fired up!

think i'll wait for the feedback from each
then weigh up the pros and cons before i order one
i'll stick with my DK2 for now
still looking into the OSVR kit

Not sure what you mean with other stuff, but it's obviously required for the free programs available on home (fair enough of course). When playing ED, OH launches when I launch ED. I'm sure it could be avoided by running it through SteamVR.

Ease of use is perfectly fine. However I wouldn't call it ease of use if OH forces customers to use a control scheme they deem best.

Any VR game/demo I've tried prior to 1.3 worked with M/KB out of the box. Given most of them were developed by a single dev, I'd say Oculus actually made an active effort to prevent anything else but Xbox controllers to work.

As such it's not a big deal - I have a 360 controller lying around (which works in OH) and I know how to use an emulator. The point is that I shouldn't have to, just because some guy from marketing thought forced co-optation would be a great idea. It's not about legacy support - I've spent several thousand € on metal/wood/leather/stone peripherals over the past decade so I don't have to touch plastic in my spare time and I won't start using a tacky console controller or play games dumbed down to work with them.

I have no "beef" with OVR - I had no intention to buy the CV1 after the retail price was made public. That being said, for the most part, I just conveyed the impression I got from reading the Oculus forums and reading of the articles that came out in the wake of release.

Personally, the only thing I really have a problem with right now is the lack of proper configuration software for the DK2, since - well - there is none under the new runtime...

Yeah I toyed with selling the DK2, maybe 4 or 5 months ago, but since (re)discovering Elite I'm so glad I hung onto it.

I don't think I'll sell it now. It smells too much of ... me ...

Hehe, same here. I am very much on the fence. Since 1.3 dropped the DK2 has improved so much in performance that it is as if I had a new HMD altogether to all effects.

My Kickstarter CV1 will arrive tomorrow so I voted the first option. After 1 and a half years playing with the DK2, I can't wait to have the commercial version in my hands.
