Time for some positive stuff, Missile lovers rejoice!

We all love 'em, but we never use 'em. Missiles... oh how they suck terribly against any hull bigger than the eagle but that is about the change.

For all those who missed it here is the confirmation about the missile buff. Hopefully this will mean a buff for explosives in general which will give every cmdr out there more variety in weapons loadouts, options for traders who likes to play it dirty and dangerous and PvP new flavor. I hope it will be as good as it sounds which will make missiles scary and torpedoes downright terrifying while also making mines a proper area denial weapon and hey.. even maybe put some use to that combat ships many frown upon.

Edit: It's @ the 27:00 mark

Nice! About time. I haven't bothered with missiles for ages and just laugh when I hear "incoming missile". Its sad when the only people using them are NPCs because they just don't know any better :)

I can't watch those two, I'm sorry. I mean, look at them.

Sad to think the one on the left is in charge of designing the game, huh.

Anyway, hopefully they put more thought into the explosives buff than more flat damage, because that's just going to end up with cries for a nerf again when people are putting them on every hardpoint. Making them more situationally appropriate in conjunction with other weapons would be far more desirable, like cracking subsystems or forcing enemies into closer engagement range.

In online multiplayer games there are always people who cry after buffs. I seriously doubt FDEV will make the mistake of buffing missiles to their pre-nerfed state which came with the release. Also the ways which one can counter this particular weapon is ridiculous in a game where you have hitscan laser weapons.

Fantastic! I'm guilty of using them on a Viper Mk. III during a CG for lulz, but it was just that. For lulz. I'm on XBOX and I wasn't around for the pre-nerf missiles/torps. But I am very happy to hear about a rebalance. Getting hit with a torpedo while your shields are down should scare the pants off of you...

There should still be some videos of it on youtube but basically an Eagle was able to destroy a shielded Anaconda spamming dumbfire missiles in close range. Dumbfire running Asp Explorers did it in seconds. We didn't have any shield boosters/banks and hull reinforcement packages with damage reduction built in by that time but still... Seriously it really was ridiculous and needed rebalance but fdev accelerated its nerfbat to super luminal speeds and then basically shelved not only missiles but all explosive weapons in general, mind that this was roughly a year ago. Missiles were utterly useless and buggy until horizons came which made dumbfires somewhat useful again. As of now dumbfires very well may be the best weapon to assault ground bases but that is it.

Interesting,
but last time missiles got buffed we already heard "really serious buff".
I will stay sceptic, unless we have something to fiddle around with,
and the idiotically high heat generating of packhounds has been touched.
Until then the cool RP gunship will stay put.

But this time Sandro said and i quote ' Like reeaally serious ' [big grin]

I have a feeling that they will get it right this time.

So does that also mean mines go back to viable, ie being lethal?

Hopefully.

The huge nerf a year ago rendered all explosives null and thanks to all the reasonable people in forums we brought this issue to Frontier. Its hard to imagine Fdev not making a balance pass for all weaponry where they are implementing a content patch which adds the ability to tinker with them.

I think they balance them to their own standards,
which clearly did not factor in homogenous builds (all rails/missiles) but favored
non-laser weaponry as specialist weapons for different tasks.
At least that is how i see it.

It is due time the Federal Gunship actually acted as a Federal Gunship,
with a C3-Multicannon and 4 Missile Pods to bring in hell-a-copter!

I'll wait to see how they fare in game before rejoicing but this is indeed great news.
As a side note, I'd totally buy a Sandro bobblehead wearing this hat : it would be ... hypnotic.

... with hypnotically spinning eyes on the looch saying:
"You can trust me, fortune is in this S.S.S., just pilot your unshielded cargo ship there."

When we get the multi shield generators, large ships will not be that easy to take out. However missiles are pretty but non effective right now.
