I assume with the Canonn's love of spreadsheets that we already have one for barnacle sound recordings to help us keep track of the circumstances of each recording. If so, can someone point me to it?

Im never looking at morse again ... sped up slowed down or in song form by Kyp...

spent the evening transcribing another hour long recording of sped up barny noise ... just more gibberish as far as I can see - didn't see any repeats

even brought some tea, heike tea, biowaste, evacuation shelter and a UA to a barnacle and performed an interpretive dance.... all to no avail

Ya there are a few videos on youtube i think . I recorded a bit this eve with the UA but not terribly long.... the thing is Ive looked at large enough sections of this sped up "morse" even without breaks ... meaningful strings of words should be able to be found. Also some kind of repeating of the pattern would be great. - was one of the reasons I recorded again tonight ... this is the longer section : -.-.--.-.-...--.---.-...-.--..-.--.-.--.-.---..---.-....-.-.-.-..-...---.-..--.-..-.-.--...-.--.-.---.-.-.--.-.-..-.-..-..--.-.----.--.-.-.-.-..-.--.----..-.---.-.-.----..-.-.--.--.---

would have been a bit longer but my aging joystick got lazy so i cut some... still dont see any overlap with the earlier recording. gerrr (I will try to get my recordings up later for posterity)

Oh no, no... the morse is just meaningless gibberish, I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing anything for the morse to say in a tune about UA's that have morse in their sound design, definitely not

Here is my attempt on deciphering barnacle morse code.

I used a recording:

I cleaned sound a bit and speed it up in audacity. I noticed that while played fast sound like a thunder occurs from time to time, and that I treated as a separator for letters/signs. Between those thunders there were from two to five sounds (horn like). I assumed the high pitch note is a dot(dit) and low pitch note is dash (dah). If someone wants to hear it I placed the processed file I'm working on here (hopefully I've set sharing right ):

That gave me this:

That "message" doesn't make any sense obviously (maybe I'm doing something wrong ), but was hell of a fun gathering info about morse code though so - time not wasted. xD

I don't suppose there's any morse in the scanner noise (either slowed down or sped up) when it detects a barnacle is there? Might be an easier way for it to try and communicate.

Yup Should I be worried that the first thing I do when I get a new piece of music is to slow it down, get an audio spectrogram and listen for faint dots and dashes ?

I've heard that Rizal now thinks in morse, and talks to his family in morse. It's why he's been so quiet lately - he cannot understand alphanumeric anymore.
