Congratulations, Distant Worlds Expedition! (And Thank you!)

Hello DWE Crew and Fleet,

From The orignal DWE thread:

"Tracing one warm line through a space so wide and savage..." - Stan Rogers (Northwest Passage)

And that is exactly what you did:

When I started experimenting with exploration and tools around it, the DWE had just reached Sagittarius A*. So at that point in time there was a thick line from Sol to SagA and after that a very thin line all the way to Beagle Point. In the weeks thereafter I saw this "one warm line" growing along the tracks of this thin line. It was very much fun to see this grow through the galaxy :).

Now, at the start of the Beagle Point Week, I congratulate you on your achievement, and I thank you for sharing so much with the rest of the community. I could not take part of this expedition, as I started playing the game at the time the expedition began. I saw the announcement and thought: "Wow, that is cool!", but when I started playing Elite Dangerous for real I soon found out that, at least for me, it was just too soon to participate in an expedition of this scale, but I immensly enjoyed reading about it. I am amazed, and inspired, by the diversity of the DWE related material that is shared. There are logbooks, databases, spreadsheets, pictures, video dyaries, poems, music, etc. This expedition did inspire so much more than just the creation of a highway through the galaxy an the exploration of the worlds around it, and that is beautiful to see.

I didn't stay at home, though, partially thanks to you DWE members. I started exploring also. Well, maybe exploring is a great word for what I am doing: I'm currently racing through the galaxy like an idiot tourist, and having tons of fun while doing so :D (my progression is the little red line near the bubble). I learn every day a little bit about flying through the galaxy and about what a fantastic community there is around exploration. I read lots of threads (until now mainly about the DWE) and have one thread of my own in which I write about my own progression. One day I hope to be able to participate in an expedition like this, but for now I'm happy to read about it and make my own beginners mistakes during my holiday run.

I have to admit that I have been pre-occupied by the outcome of one of the DWE stories: The story of CMDR Frawd Digger and the Rock Rats. It even made me a bit emotional when I read that CMDR Frawd Digger made Beagle Point. To me personally this is the best story of them all (see my signature to find out why ;)).

I whish you all a very happy Beagle Point Week! I'll keep on reading and lurking and I hope to read about / from you guys more in the future.

Fly safe,
CMDR Jermus

I am so glad that we helped to both inspire you and that you were able to watch our journey through to the end. :)
I have a very strong feeling that this will become an annual event, and if so I know that you would be most welcome to come with us next year.

This Expedition was more than just a trip out into the black - it forged the strongest of friendships and bonds among a community and became the literal journey of a lifetime!

In short, I know that the folks back home were just as much a part of this through inspiration, and by seeing our stories as the journey progressed.
Thank YOU, for your support!

I suppose we could launch one expedition annually with the goal to reach the far end of other galactic arms, or just sightsee distant wonders.
It was nice to have so many CMDRs join in, the company made the trip worthwhile.

That's a great post Jermus. I know DW has been enjoyed by a LOT of people that didn't even get to take part, some don't even play elite (yet!) yet they've followed this adventure on these forums, enjoyed the blogs, and have loved the countless videos and streams that have been created out of it... I've got dozens of PMs on here and YT from them :)

Distant Worlds is only the beginning... I should have some news on future expeditions in a couple of weeks, so those who missed out on this one may be able to join the others to come ;)

If there is going to be future expeditions, let's hope they are a while away to give us a chance to get back! :)

I sure do hope on future expeditions, but I also have to agree with Fandomlife: Please give us time to get back! (and a little more, there's this bagel shaped magnet at the edge of the universe just begging me to come and visit... ;)).

Fly safe,
CMDR Jermus

I should have some news on upcoming expeditions next week, after BP week is over. I'll have a thread on here listing all the current and upcoming expeditions that are being discussed for the coming year.

Great post Jermus, well said!

The DWE has been my greatest experience yet in Elite, I mean it's been awesome fun. My plan for the return trip is to explore the outer extents of the Scutus Centaurus Arm (the Abyssal Plain) and then explore the west side of the galaxy, and while I'm excited to start my own journey once again, I'll also greatly miss the social waypoints of the DWE, the comradarie that has been so great these past few months.

Yeah, I plan to be on more group exploration trips in the future! As many as I can, lol!!!!
