Just ordered the tobii eyex

Ordered on Sunday, received it today (Germany).

Had some trouble with the ISE at first, but was able to solve it with some information from the Tobii support forum. Boy, is that thing going to take some time to getting used to. Or I'll still have to find some good settings for me.

Anyways, it seems to work better if I have something to look at and don't try to think about it.
Also, seems to have a slight downwards tendency (or that's simply the way I was used to the screen centering previously).

Regarding the accuracy/distance discussion: what I found out while playing a bit (maybe 20 minutes or so) with mine yesterday is that the accuracy at a larger distance is quite fine for me, IF the tracker targets me correctly. The tracker is angled at the bottom of my screen, so when changing the distance to the screen, I'm apparently moving out of the tracker's headbox. If I change the angle, everything works fine again.

I know, the magnet mount doesn't permit for different angles, but in my case, there's a second stable position where the tracker is looking further up. Due to my setup, that's what I need to use for regular distance. If I lean back in my chair, my head moves down and I need to move the tracker to the regular fully attached position. If it turns out that this annoys me sufficiently, I might have to improvise some kind of angular adjustment.

I am coming back to my question from 3 pages earilier in this thread.

I understand now that the latest Tobii software that I am using at this moment does not rely anymore on the VJOY protocol though it still installs it. The assumption is that it needs it for other games than ED2H.
So, am I now to delete the VJOY references in my binding file that I could eventually add there via text editor my self?

And second, I 'd really still appreciate very much a must do agenda in tutotial form for X52Pro and Tobii EyeTracker users :(

PS:
I spend now more than days come back to playing a commander after endlessly reading threads here and on Tobiis forum to get thing a little bit working. But still things are not right due to the camera jumping efect in the latest Tobii software. I nearly wrecked my ship while docking cause the camere jumped else where. Okay, I tend to look around and I like to do so since I like the graphics. And who does not afters thousands of dockings? With TrackIR all was smooth and easy. Now I spend more than 100€ for this hardware to improve my game inertian and I am still more reading help thread than gaming :(

Have you tried the ISE 1.02 yet? (older version) it's much smoother than the newer versions.

I actually don't like my Eyex unless I'm using this older software.

Where can I get the 1.02?

The Tobii site only seems to have the new version (which I have) and it stutters my Elite, where the old version (which I should have kept) worked fine.
Alas, I cannot seem to find a download for the 1.02 EyeX driver / software.

I wish Tobii would hurry up.

EyeX been sat unused now for over a month. 1.0.2 has issues (headlook lock/recenter), 1.1.1 has other issues (feels wrong). I'm finding no version of the software is useable. :(

I know development takes time but I really hope this is not being held up in slow QA/approval/signoff etc... where the actual work was completed ages ago.

Must this device definitely be fitted below the screen? I have a permanent G27 steering wheel sitting in front of me and it doesn't leave much space over the top of the wheel rim for a clear view of the bottom of the monitor.

Thanks for any info :)

I guess you have to try. Mounting it on top upside down should theoretically be possible, but if it works ?

OK Guys i found a driver for the ASMEDIA USB3 Controller that works for me!

Anyone who has problems with this can have a try.

USB3_Asmedia_Win7_81_VER116160

Its working good.
Its so intresting thing!

My home computer recognizes the device.
I could set up all properly.
I was almost happy that i got over it.
But that was early.

I can see the black box that shows me how much i can move while the device is turned on.
After pressing any button a messagebox appears to inform the the device is simply not here.

Thats horrible!
At least i can say its working but its not working.
Any ideas?

Guys i didnt mean to spam but unfortunately i couldnt make it out inside the game.
Which headtrack settings do i have to change for setting the eye movement tracking enabled inside the game?

To be honest I don;t think I had to set anything, just all automatic. It was a while ago now though.

You have downloaded Infinitescreen software?

Hmm mine has started acting up. I havn't had it plugged in for a few weeks, but wanted to use it and I can't source the cause of this new problem. At random intervals usually many minutes apart it will reset and go offline and come back online again. I don't know what has changed, but have been though all device settings and registry to turn off any resemblance of power management. No help.
I have a Asus Mobo with Intel Chipset. Plugging the eyex directly into the PC causes the eyex to continually rest every few seconds. Going though my powered USB hubs, its stable for minutes at a time but then it resets once every now and then (everything else in the hub continues to work)
Anyone else experienced this?

Strange, I don't have a headlook recentre problem.

I do have to launch Elite twice though. The first time shows the URI error. The second time works as it should.

Sounds like a faulty cable.

I had this happen to me, I posted in the Tobii forum and they sent me a new one.

Problem solved.

Actually i may need both of them, tobii and ED settings.

Im running the infinitescrens settings as speed1, gradient 1 and dead zone as 0.8

What did you guys assign inside the game?

There is no need to assign something ingame. This should right right away once ISE is running.

I am indeed using the same monitor as you, and I still don't have any issues with it. You can see video proof of how it worked in my review, and I'm also willing to upload a new video showing that it still works. As far as I can see, the problem is due to the updated driver and InfiniteScreen software (I'm still using the old versions).
Well, I honestly have yet to test Elite Dangerous, as I did not plan to play until 2.1 was out.. and that's delayed until late June. I did test The Division, but there's very little real control in that game with the EyeX, and it's not terribly precise so it's a bit of a meh situation with that game.

The changes in how the software end works (vJoy -> Freetrack) for Elite Dangerous are a different problem entirely to my "issues".

To show my tracking issues off, I recorded a video of the tracking test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_JQSDBbOg

You can see how totally out of whack the tracking is when I try to look to the sides, especially the top sides. Bottom sides are oddly accurate.

I have gotten it a bit more precise, but it requires re-calibration every time I use it.

For reference: I sit about 70cm away normally, 55cm when leaned a bit forward and 85-100cm sitting relaxed (and at that point the tracker can barely pick me up, if at all).

I also have pretty severe astigmatism (one of the worst my optometrist has seen) and wear contacts. I question if it's actually my astigmatism that's causing the tracking issues. I did test without contacts and there were no real changes to tracking.

After looking for a head tracking device, I've compared the Tobii EyeX with the TrackIR PRo 5 and, after some research, finally ordered the last one.

Although I think the eye tracking system to be more effective (and probably the future of this type of solutions), I just feel that the Tobii EyeX is still at a very young phase and lacks some important features.

Also, TrackIR device is more expensive. I think the Tobii price is really appealing, but finally went with the TrackIR Pro pack.

Just wanted to share.

This sounds like a faulty cable, if you wiggle the cable a little bit at the Mini-B end does it keep DC/C?

Out of interest are you sitting facing a window perhaps? I've found that mine can become erratic when there's lots of sunlight, especially if it's shining directly on to my face. I've even had the problem when my blinds are closed (admittedly they're not black out blinds).
