This will be published on the 12th of April.

Thanks, Ian. I had a feeling it would be. I've been sitting on that one since New Year.

It's interesting, it occurs to me that in the Elite universe Gagarin may even be the foremost historic figure, since space flight is so vital. Makes sense that it'd be a well-remembered event sparking pilgrimages and such.

P.S. Anyone else notice that "Lea Tantaga" is an anagram of "A GalNet ATA". I'm wondering if this is a clue about the direction of the UA/meta-alloy story.

Are the player news items that appear in local news persistent or do they eventually disappear from the local feeds?

If they do dissappear that's a shame, it's nice to arrive somewhere and read the local news to see what's been happening since the start of the game (it wasn't that long ago, there can't be that many reports yet).

As far as I'm aware, Local News is persistent. There are some pretty old articles around. I'm sure you've been to Lave and seen how old some of those articles are.

Thank you Ian!

In retrospect, I should have included Gaiman Dock in 49 Arietis and Hinz Hub in Ngobe for the list of local publication sites. Would it be possible to retroactively include this article in those stations/systems as well? Thanks in advance if that's possible!

Nice damage limitation on the official Galnet CG completion post today too :)

Awww :(

When I submitted the article the CG was already successful. :(

It came down to a coin-toss on whether I re-edit the earlier submission, or post it fresh, because this one is similar to my earlier one, but also different enough, oh well if I get scolded for not following the rules I get scolded for not following the rules. Regardless I'm probably going to keep hammering as this till I get it to fit.

TITLE: Details Leak on Federal Farragut Investigation

DESCRIPTION: Following a visit to Mars by the injured General Mathew Hopkins, only just now returned from the Fjorgyn Sector after his battle group had been ambushed by “unknown enemy forces”.

An anonymous source within the closed door meetings had this to say:
“We’ve accounted for all the federal cruisers in the fleet, including those lost in combat, and are currently looking into if these are a clever copy of the ship, for example a pirate lord with a few trillion credits and access to a [placeholder name and ship class]* that they then welded a silly amount of weapons to, or if these are the real deal and we’re looking at potentially an splinter organization originally on our side that has now gone completely off the reservation”.

*I had an idea that it would make sense that based on the size of the ship Core Dynamics could have adopted the design of an older ship and the original Farraguts were simply refit and re-purposed ships, and if that were the case examples of the original ship could exist and either a pirate lord with enough money or equipment to kit it out like a real Farragut and [redacted brassy bits] to have their own gravitational pull to even think about trying to pirate a federal cruiser. I went though a few name ideas on this one as well before deciding to just throw a "placeholder name" because while I did have a few ideas (Leviathan heavy cargo ship, Federal colony ship, things of that nature) I didn't have a really good one that stuck.

Title: HIP 17706 Travel Warning

Description: The San Department of State urges travelers to avoid HIP 17706 because of ongoing safety and security concerns. Those who remain in HIP 17706 should understand that they accept the inherent risks, and take suitable precautions. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on March 25, 3302. Despite recent victories by "Strike Force Smith", Sirius Inc cannot guarantee the safety of travelers. This system has a long history of indigenous arms production, and rampant criminality in the hinterlands. Landmines and unexploded ordnance pose significant danger in the vicinity of Smith Silo (HIP 17706 1 B). Travelers should watch for posted landmine warnings and strictly avoid all areas where landmines may be present.

-Commander McCaslin

Notes: Sirius Inc just seized a planetary outpost in HIP 17706. Under previous management, "Smith Silo" had 3k+ supply of landmines... and other assorted goodies.

Title: 'Firefly Fandango' theory disproven
Location: Galnet (continuation of 'Firefly Fandango' post from a couple of weeks ago)
Time: Your choice :)
Description:

Weeks after Dr Arcanonn brought news of CMDR Engalo’s suggestion of a ‘firefly fandango‘ between the unknown artefacts and meta alloys, he has issued this update on the investigations:

"After Engalo’s research was published, our science teams set to work to try and identify whether there is indeed an interaction taking place."

"Soon after, many CMDRs, including Locastan, Criosx and Engalo himself, came to the conclusion that what they were witnessing was most likely due to the distortion field that surrounds the unknown artefact."

"This field seems to diffract light passing near the vicinity of the artefact, causing objects around it to appear duplicated. After close observation, it was decided that what appeared to be pairs of fireflies ‘dancing’, were actually duplicates of the same firefly."

"I commend the teams on their hard work in verifying this phenomenon, and am pleased to be able to cross this off our list of investigations."

Commander Lord Zoltan

Title: The Imperial Inquisition Toppled

Description: The Tyranny of the Imperial Inquisition has finally been brought to an end after being routed from their homeworld.

Brestla Silver Vision Network has supported the people’s revolt against the Imperial fanatics and they have successfully dominated the organization.

Factions hostile to The Imperial Inquisition are also believed, through the means of a purge, to have assisted in the elimination of their military and security forces. It is reported by civilians that there were no protection authorities in the vicinity when what seemed to be absolute chaos hit their homes.

With their system of origin lost, all that is left in the ether are the confused questions from those who had remained loyal to the Imperial Inquisition - why???

Title: The Siege of Wadir
Time: As soon as possible
Location: Official Galnet

Following a sudden silence from Imperial opposition, the pirate lord Archon Delaine has made a grab at several of the core-ward border worlds. The Wadir system has fallen after a week of siege, despite a surprisingly ferocious resistance from the local organizations.

The capture of Wadir has put several systems of a fledgling alliance known as The Border Coalition under direct control of the pirate lord. This has prompted an emergency meeting which is likely to see the addition of The Winged Hussars to the Border Coalition boosting its affiliated forces to 700 commanders from the pilots federation.

Currently the Border Coalition is an odd medley of mercenary forces supplied by the feudal Dukes of Mikunn and communist freedom fighters from Manite. Time will tell if they are able to mount a sufficient resistance.

Thank you very much, sir! Unfortunately, I did just notice a mistake(s) in the local news feed:

  • "...due OF ongoing security concerns" (should be 'to')
  • "...victories FROM Strike Force Smith" (perhaps 'by' or 'of' would be the better word choice?)
