Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

Whack-a-rat last night went superbly well. Or rather: superbly well until we unfortunately lost one of our number in an Asp (and someone please remind me who the unfortunate soul was, as I feel bad for forgetting and it’s good to remember his efforts)

Things to take away from the evening:

Bad
If you are low on hull strength, do not join in while flying
Maintain some situational awareness if you are a hunter
I may have screamed a little loudly and possibly swore a bit on the live feed. Again.

Good
As a spectator sport, it’s hard to ever beat it
Watching a Federal Corvette unleash a massive cannon barrage at near point blank range on a teeny weeny little SRV AND THE SRV SURVIVE is astonishing
People are basically gits
It was like a feeding frenzy at one point, with this midget tick bouncing around on the planet surface being pounded by any number of energy and projectile weapons from multiple ships
It is incredibly nerve wracking as a rat
Watching multiple ships fly overhead while you’re belting along is worth the whole evening in itself

The highlight for me was DrKaii and his burgeoning love affair (“Oh I love your accent…” great chat up line there!)

The lowlight was the unfortunate loss of an Asp, but even that was spectacular, and very memorable. Watching an Asp circle strafe a SRV is pretty impressive; the unfortunate collision with the steep slope which catapulted the exploding remains into the sky was terrible to watch and a less than sanguine moment for us all. Anyone playing this evening, please remember this and be careful while attempting to blow someone to kingdom come.

Concluding thought:
Superb idea, brilliantly executed by all – may try and join in again this evening (if only to watch)

In other other words, back in the bubble with little concern for blowing up your ship, you could really go bananapeanutbuttersandwich crazy with the idea.

Nice summary commander. Is there any video footage available? I missed the event due to instancing issues.

Glad you enjoyed it :) I heard that being a rat is as nerve-racking as it gets in ED - seeing those hunters passing overhead, looking to spot any sign of movement below. ;)

I think in hindsight its a game that should be played in the bubble... although the high stakes of playing it 65K from home does add that element of unique risk that can't be recaptured anywhere else other than at Beagle Point!

The unfortunate pilot who died took his demise with grace, even though he must have been gutted. The only consolation is that he'll go down in Elite folklore as the first person to die at Beagle Point, and has no doubt set an unenviable record of being the most distant death ever in Elite Dangerous.

Sounds like a lot of fun and entertainment. Wish I could have been there.

Lelna Grathor? (I was listening in with one ear, sounded like a lot of fun up until that point.)

Last night during those emotional speeches on the livestream i was thinking...why not set up one more WP? WP24: Bubble. Lets give all the commanders enough time to come home by whatever route they have chosen - i think 4-5 months is reasonable - and meet again somewhere in the Bubble. We can sit by the campfire and tell stories about DW and our journey back home. Or just say hello and keep the spirit alive :)
What you think, anyone interested?

I like it.

Last post on my departure but I want to clarify to all my friends, DWE colleagues and DWE admin staff on this amazing adventure I have been privileged to be a member of (and still am a member of until I reach home in my opinion). Just so you are fully aware of the situation regarding my early return from beagle point. I am very busy with my real life job at the minute and it is increasingly looking like I will be very soon in a place without any internet connection. To that end I am heading back early, the instancing issue last night was just a catalyst for my decision to leave. I am still a part of DW and am not leaving Kamzel. I hope I will be a part of Fleet #1 (I fulfilled all criteria) and I wish you all the best of luck on your return. I hope my early departure hasn't upset anyone or caused me to fall out of favour with the admin staff, I regard you all highly I just need to prioritise my commitments at the present moment.

Don't feel bad about it, in fact I'm also planning to leave BP tonight. My only excuse is that I am spending my 4th week there... the only great aspect of staying was the social one, but yesterday's instancing problems largely took that away.

So unless the sole Keelback is needed to fly in the formation, I'm about to leave the Beagle-bubble. :)

After getting both my ships to Bagel Point at the weekend I am now a bit stuck as to what to do. I am currently 4000 miles from home on holiday in Florida (booked last June so not my fault). I only have my laptop so can only be in one ship at a time. My second account is not Horizons so I cannot land my Asp (Brian Cohen) and I have no faith in my ability to land my 'conda (Montgomery Python) with only an Xbox controller. I don't arrive home until 9 Apr and want to get both ships together for my selfie shots, etc. I will miss out on the end of expedition party due to travelling home. So if anyone sees either of my ships in orbit doing nothing but floating around, please say 'hi' or accept my friend request. I bought @PlanetCoater Alpha just for something else to do. Maybe I should enjoy the Florida sunshine and bearable heat.

Also don't sent your X52 Pro to Mad Catz for repair, they guarantee to lose it.

Fly safe Cmdrs

I like it too. Maybe November 7 - the day Erimus (The Asp That Launched A Thousand Ships) first posted the idea? (Would give the FGE Flotilla enough time as well).

For those looking for a route home along the eastern arm to the bubble, we will have something for you soon.

The Golden Phallus™ has landed!

115676 LY traveled (no losses)
3532 jumps
3514 new systems visited
2 days late...
1 regret - I seem to have been on an aircraft during all the fun, as I read it! May the gravity of 1000 black holes infest your armpits for daring to have fun without me! HA!

Z...

Absolutely! However, I doubt anyone would play it without the magic-SRV-replacement in effect :D

Hello fellow commanders,

the journey itself has ended since the majority of the fleet has arrived at beagle point, the festivities there are ongoing.
This is the time where I'd like to express some gratitudes.

First, thank you commander Maak for your (almost last minute) decision to join this expedition with me and and keep me
accompanied the whole way. It's been some pleasent ~91000ly with you at my side.

Special thanks goes to CMDRs SimonWoods and Gertymoon who's great humor is second to (almost) none. You both have been some great fellas
to hang out with and i wish I'd met you sooner. Hopefully we share some (or all) of the way back to the bubble.

Thanks to CMDR Voorheez for keeping his avatar a while longer on my say so :) Cool thing we finally met at WP22 and spent some time together.
Have an eventful but save and pleasant journey home!

Thanks to TracerTom who I met on launch day back in January, also a great Commander. Your "navigation tool" was very very helpfull, i used it from
the day you provided it all the way to beagle.

On saturday April 2nd we managed to to go into a formation and did a flyby over the basecamp at BP. For me iot was my first formation fly
as well as some of the participating commanders. It went well and perhaps it looked awesome from the ground. I say perhaps bacause there is no
video footage of it from the ground that I know of. This whole evening was one of my highlights of this journey and special thanks herby
goes to the following commanders:

Maak, TracerTom, SimonWoods, Gertymoon, DanDak, Jarred, Donkey Hote, Alexander Tal'Darim and John Shibregro

And lastly, thanks to all the organizers and admins that put so much effort into this expedition. Thanks to you guys we had so many successful
events, newsletter, fleet coms, tons of video footage and all kinds of lists etc. I personally was blown away by the effort of the rock rats. The sheer
number of Planets they surveyed is unbelievable.

I hope my way back to the bubble (which i might start next week) is as eventful and funny as the journey to beagle point, but if some of the commanders
mentioned above accompany my, i have no doubt it will be.

I hope i didn't forget anyone, if so i apologise.

Commanders of the distant worlds fleet, i salute you. o7
