Project Cars woes: Can this happen to Elite?

This is based on a lot of assumption but I think that Project CARS uses the Steamworks API for peer to peer style multiplayer, or something similar. Elite has its own servers - so if you bought through Frontier, or Steam, or Oculus, you connect to central servers, same as everyone else.
 
I share this understanding of pcars' problem. I heard on reddit that Steamworks handles matchmaking for them, so Oculus home users just don't exist to steam players.
 
They could play with steam users, if Facebook Oculus were not building walls and stuff.

I don't know why there would be any change for Elite. Apparently when you launch from Oculus Home, it just brings up the same, 2D launcher on your desktop that all of us use.
