One board - all modes?

Hello CMDRs,

Just a little mussing question for you all:

If the game were to have just 1 mission board per station but it was used in all modes, so any missions you see would also be shown in the other two modes, how would you feel about this?

Comment, debate, rant and rave all you want, it's just a question...

As always though, please keep it civil and polite.

Thank-you

1) right now: miffed
2) After 2.1: dont care

The mission logging is done because the system isnt functioning. Fix the system and the need for it is gone. New players often can accept NO mission at all. Let them change boards so they can start playing, beats having them sit around for literally hours before one measly mission shows up. Give people a choice of multiple missions so there's always something to do that is your taste. Once we're there it simply doesnt matter if the boards are equal.

So why is a player offered a different board dependent on the mode they are playing? By 'mode' I assume you mean, open, solo, private. I don't understand the logic of having a different different mission board, dependent on mode.

The player; by rank, standing and ship, should dictate the list of missions on offer: Therefore they should be the same, whatever the mode.

The server that decides what random missions to display is contacted when you go into the BB in that mode, it holds the link whilst still in that mode. If you switch modes it's possible that you'll get a different server and it'll create a different set of missions.

Not always you can get the same server in all modes but chances are you'll get a different one.

I see: Hence the ability to stack when switching modes. Thanks.

"I expect this change to come in 2.1 and looking forward to it."

+1 to this.

They'd have to do a lot of improvements to the boards first. Right now, mode switching is the only way to get decent missions. If they were actually organized by type, rank, etc... then one board would be fine.

100% agree with this fair gentleman - missions just need to be sorted and relevant to particular vocations.

Mining jobs
Trade / courier requests
System policing / wanted lists / bounties
Faction specific missions

etc

I would prefer that as well, but it looks like the missions update that will be coming will generate missions especially for you. I can see the bulletin board coming back eventually with non-faction related missions.

Agreed and repped.

Nope.

You always can have multiple (more than one) missions.

The BB changes the missions after 10 minutes, you could wait at one station and check the BB every 10 minutes
and get one or some of the missions offered.

This can be speed up by switching mode, if done right you'll get another set of missions instantly, no need
to wait for 10 minutes.

Also you could fly to the next station and check the BB there for something you like.

It is completely irrelevant if the BB offers the same missions for modes or not, one won't notice and care about that anyway. Also it won't make the mode switching useless, as long as there are multiple servers not all offering the same missions. It might slow down things a bit though, because one might need to switch more often to get assigned to another server with different missions.

For the record it wouldn't bother me one way or the other. If this just to prevent mission stacking I don't bother with that (tried it for ranking and hated spending my time in menus rather than playing) but I have no issue with anyone doing so if they want to.

Agreed, I pick up all the missions I can. I don't switch modes etc, but I will stack missions, local to each other, if I can.

Definitely yes from me. Personally - and this is only my opinion - mode switching is an exploit. I have used it only once in Elite and I stay strong, but nevertheless - exploits should not be allowed.

But what if you did not get any different missions when mode switching, what if there was only one mission board regardless of mode. That's the question I posed :)
