We don't understand why they can't just let us choose our own leaders."
"I'm afraid to fly around the system I've lived in for 50 years", said Joseph Rana, a lifelong citizen of Novas. "My family has historically made their living delivering goods between McDonald City and Porges Dock, and now I can't even make my scheduled routes for fear of Emperor's Grace agents flying around destroying the policemen who make our skies safe. I'm not sure how my family is going to eat."

Description: A group of bounty hunters have recently stumbled upon a strange beacon drifting in deep space 2000 lys away from Sol. The bounty hunters report taking it to a system in populated space but say they will not share the location of the beacon until further studies are complete. They describe the beacon to not be organic like the artefact, but like obsidian mix with a material that glows yellow when brought close to a planet covered in a large body of water. All attempts to break open the obsidian beacon have failed causing many expensive tools to degrade rapidly. It is also described to have the outline of a human hand and the outline of a salamander engraved onto the obsidian shell. The hunters are conducting further research studying any records of human interaction with aliens, but so far, nothing relevant has come up.

Confusion abounds in Galnet-affiliated news agencies across the galaxy, as the Galnet freelance newsfeed suddenly appears to have gone silent. A low-key public service announcement hinted it may be due to 100% of the freelance report department going on vacation for the next 10 days, but there is growing unease about the true cause of this news shut-down.
Why are the freelance reports being shut down for 10 days? What are they afraid we'll find out? Can we be sure they'll ever be restored? Can the official news channels be trusted to provide objective, un-biased, un-doctored news? The official news sources are too easily manipulated, controlled. We need independent, close-to-the-action news sources; it's the bedrock of our civilisation.
