Let's just call like it is. A game that's asking for your money year on end, still "in development", and requesting that you excuse everything until its done in the next 8 years.
So, the game asked for my money. I pre-ordered what is now known as 'Season 1'. I enjoyed the hell out of Elite in Season 1. Enjoyed it so much and spent so many happy hours playing it, I figured I got the game for a bargain. So, I pre-ordered Horizons. Thinking, even if Horizons is a total bust, I still feel I got my money's worth. Horizons is not a bust. And I'm enjoying it as well. Which for me decides that I'll probably fork over the money for season 3 as well, using the same logic.

I'm posting this since I get the sense from your posts that you see me as some sort of schmuck who is paying Frontier based on a long-8-year-term promise. I don't have to excuse a damn thing. I love the game as it stands. (Disclaimer pre-empting strawmen: no, that does not mean I think it's perfect or beyond criticism.)

I get the feeling that you might feel a smug sense of superiority over the sheeple who are conned by FD, and you of course can see through their dastardly schemes and if only we could see things as you did we'd all be off much better.

But then again, I might interpret that all wrong, and in that case, forget I said anything :)

This is like some sort of meta-complaint thread? Anyway I am looking forward to the next eight years of development, I am so excited for all the new things that will be everything we ever wanted just like Arena and Powerplay.Besides, has anyone thought about what happens at the end of the 10 year plan? Nothing more to make, nothing more to sell. Elite will be complete for just a little while before the servers are put to sleep. No more money means no more game. Something to look forward to!
I just hope i'm not in a pine box by then, that would be a real waste of my lifetime pass :)

I hear star citizen definitely delivered 10 years of content like 2 weeks ago. *cough*

gameplay in SC has more variable gameplay elements already, than elite does, and SC is in early alpha.

seriously.......missions in Elite are pointless as they are ALL made out of 2 elements
- travel
and/or
- shooting

you take a mission, travel to destination and do what ever there is to do. either its delivering stuff (so in principle nothing is to do) or you must hunt down something.

as combat became boring for me (its all about reversing and or stealth ----> no real flying skill needed), there is NOTHING, that appeals me any longer. thats why i quitted
playing 2-3 months ago.

i know, that all white knights will come now, and bash me with the old phrases, that there is SO MUCH TO DO!
yeah....
- mining (boring as     . fly around asteroids (ok...maybe thats not boring for some bad pilots) shoot with a lazer and let the droids pick up your stuff....no skill required)
- exploring (jump from system to system, that are all procedurally generated and look all the same after the 100th jump ---> no skill required except finding a scoopable star)
- powerplay (oh come on.....)
- trade (boring as     )
- missions (see above)
- bounty hunting (i did that for a long time, but combat against AI is still boring as     . ok it takes now longer and AI wings are not soooooo easy to crush, but the principle mechanic is still not very intelligent)
- PVP (yeah.....did that.....a lot........i dont like the new stealth meta, neither i liked the SCB crap. but fighting the same ppl all over again is meh.......and ganking noobs is not my style. so im pretty much done here also)

i had high hopes for horizons, but the potential was NOT successfully utilized. and thats the problem of the whole game.

the potential is still high......and i like the general design, optics, sound groundwork and the fact, that the whole universe has a realistic approach
but until the potential is used, i will just lurk now and then.

just my 2 cents....take them, or leave them.....i dont care

I think you read way too into what I said, or apparently...what I've "been" saying? That's...odd since I've been away for months.

It's too bad you didn't read "way too into" what I actually said...or the substance of my post :p.

When I said: I get the sense from your posts" I meant post. Singular. Typo.

Well I quoted the part. "Let's just call like it is. A game that's asking for your money year on end, still "in development", and requesting that you excuse everything until its done in the next 8 years."

I'm not sure what context in your post changes that statement. Context which I did read by the way.

Well, the small snippet you quoted is part of the chunk above it. Quoting it out of context...takes the meaning out of context. It's also why it would be perplexing how you figured I sounded "smug"? from that single line, without having the context of the other parts of my post.

I just find it odd that out of all the things I said, you took the least opinionated part of it and replied as if I had made some sort of character judgement on everyone involved, including you personally. Interestingly enough, that would be impossible because I quoted the very first post in this thread. Which is why I stated it's a shame you didn't dig that deep into what I actually said...or the substance of my post; rather than taking it onto a tangent.

At least I know you aren't stalking me now. I think. /spools up FSD.

Please do cheer up, people. Life's good, no? I mean, a huge chunk of the planet probably *wishes* their biggest problem was an argument about a video game online. :D

From their website:
"8 Comm Array missions involving dogfighting and EVA, 8 Research missions involving protecting civilians or recovering lost data and 1 Exploration mission of an abandoned station."

Go place, shoot stuff, go out and scan thing. Go place shoot stuff that's shooting at other stuff, scan thing. Go place, scan thing?

The SC admirants confuse me. We have more mission types than that in Elite and they combine most of those elements and many more. For every SC mission with a story hanging off it Elite has a huge story arc with missions hanging off it. Your actions influence a huge BGS spanning thousands of systems and a story that spans a galaxy, not one section called the Coil. But because the story isn't centred around you the mountain Will Not come to Mohammed and that is a stumbling block for a lot of people

Fun isn't the word I'd use. I've been distracted long enough to call it a day at work, so I can go home now.

Now I have to go through the ordeal of making dinner, eating, conversation with the natives for social purposes, before I can fire up the game again.

Lucky You!

I am in the process of making dinner, ignoring the natives and about to dismantle my PC to take it to the computer shop to have a new video card installed. I don't expect to get it back until saturday morning. So no E: D for me this eveing.

My natural state of mind as a middle-aged old git is miserable. Nothing's as good as it used to be. I've recently had to buy an 'intimate personal grooming aid' and have started to wear cardigans. Nevertheless, deep down, I know I've still got it, and playing E.D. always confirms this. I might not play with a smile on my face, but there's always one in my heart.

Well said Jenner!

A chap asks for a bit of cheer and get's walls of text and a review of another game!

Meanwhile, those of us who like to pretend we are deep thinkers are wondering what Ziggy will be cooking? :D

Might I suggest installing the new card yourself?

It's quite simply the easiest and safest part of computer assembly.

It also means you can be done in 5 minutes, rather than Saturday.
