Thargoids

Could be. They did also leave on generation ships that did not have the FSD technology that our current ships have, so there's always a possibility that they're between systems, or maybe that they settled on a rogue planet and are drifting aimlessly towards something... or indeed someone...

Or maybe they met these "someones" and they took them in, nurtured, changed them, ready to be sent back to us...

Both are intriguing possibilities. The first not so much for them... gone on a great venture, to be found by people who've gone way past them... But the other, now - that's a whole different story :D

My only contact with the Thargoids was in Elite 84. Frisbie shaped death machines, but with valuable cargo to be collected.

However: With what I have read here over the months in the threads; the OP is basically right.

My thoughts, were anything Alien or similar, is dangerous and therefore; keep away from. However: As I have read, with Horizons along come rumours of Thargoids and Barnacles. Players shooting them up? No answers from FD about if this is a good or bad thing. Players getting rewards for shooting up Barnacles. This can only turn out bad.

The Andromeda strain, something collected from space, that ate plastics and killed people, of course.

The problem is that FD only gives you the option to shoot at it, or leave it alone. No tools for investigation, no tricorder so to speak, just guns guns and more guns.

Right now I'd settle for some lights burning on the dark side of an Earth like.

I'm always hoping to find this, and I long suspected such worlds already do exist in game but nobody has found one yet (due to rarity).

I'm sure I remember a comment from MB in the exploration livestream along the lines of "as far as I'm aware, nobody has found any yet" when referring to the rarity of sentient life, then went in to joke "even in the bubble" (which I think kind of distracted us a little from what had just been said).

That kind if reinforced my suspicion. I'm sure there will be at least one out there in the beyond, but there's we'll never find it based on the size of the galaxy.

Has any station or ship been actually seen made operable by UA?
Well, if you leave an UA in your cargo hold for too long it will eventually destroy your ship, yeah. Also, there's supposed to be an upper threshold of UAs you can deliver to a station, after which all its services (except shipyard) shut down, but no station has reached it yet.
