Powerplay Holy jeez, what happened to Mahon?

I just took a look at Powerplay looking to see if I should join a faction today, and I noticed Mahon in turmoil. Then I noticed he's nearly 6000cc in turmoil.

I don't follow the Powerplay folks very closely, but that looks...bad at the very best. Did the Empire and the Federation decide to stop sniping at each other and pick on Mahon who's been at the top of the list at least since I've been back playing?

Hudson and Winters did a pretty large snipe by handing in merits in the last 30 or so minutes of the cycle. As far as I can tell (I'm a Mahon pledge), it was a minimum of 317,000 effective merits, a minimum of 33 systems and about 3,200 CC worth of income. It then ends up at -5,899 CC because of how turmoil is calculated, which is a bit strange.

I tip my hat to them - they did well.

There's no gentle way to put this, but Mahon got Eiffel Towered by Hudson and Winters. Historically brutal. But the Alliance is extremely solid, and I don't believe they will stay down long before swinging back.

Correct. This is the power of a well organized snipe. This is likely also why some people are eager to see sniping removed from the game, but I can't say that I agree with this notion. Snipes make it possible to make some rather interesting strategic moves, and if that ability is removed, it takes away another reason for people to organize

Not really. Mahon is solid, yes. But not Alliance.

Good point. It's very easy to conflate Mahon and Alliance, but they are different. The Alliance is quite a lot smaller than Mahon's PowerPlay sphere.
Well, yes but that doesn't mean that Alliance is solid, last I checked lore wise they are an economical superpower?
Also Edmund is the Prime minister and political leader of the Alliance, so there's that basically a figure alliance players can rally behind.

At best it seems to indicate that system flipping is troublesome and slow compared to power play :)

That is correct, but there is also a galaxy map related bug that stops systems from switching color when flipped. This is supposedly fixed in 2.1 and at that point it will probably be visible how much the Alliance has grown ever since launch.
