The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I am only on mobile right now, so will post a little more detail later this evening. However please consider Erimus' location for the rift being broadly correct.

Cheers,

Drew.
Great, thx. This renders my thoughts of the inverse RR-line obsolete. :p One tin foil hat less to worry about.

Ok. My mind is playing games with me... I think I might have been out here too long at this point.

You see, after so much witchspace, you start seeing things. Ghosts... Maybe it's stuff that has been there forever, but never noticed before. The dullness of each jump makes you look at that unknown matter flying by with more detail. You start following the traces of those lights, or those planet shaped figures. Those clouds of matter seem to embrace you, they talk to you, confuse you...

I've learned to deal with it. Those trips through witchspace have become routine. My sight gets lost between the play of lights, stars and galaxies. In each jump I get doozy, sleepy, hypnotized... And then I'm always woken back to reality by a star approaching at great velocity...

My last jump was different though... I was taken out of my hipnosys right before exiting back to our realm. My sight was following the dance of lights and colors, watching those lights whizz by at varying speeds. And then, out of nowhere, four to five lights appeared to the front and left of me. They were not the typical ones, no... I had never seen them before, it was new. It scared the hell out of me!!! It was a fraction of a second, four to five lights, bunched together in what seemed like a formation. Bright red like braking lights, or like our dreaded unscoopable stars are seen in the galaxy map. They didn't travel like the rest either against me, they just appeared out of nowhere.

Sadly, it was so fast that I couldn't take a screenshot. I'm even doubting of myself without it. Has anybody had something similar? I have enough jumps on my back to know what is normal or not, but this has left me wondering if it was just a glitch in my jump, my mind, or something else entirely...

Do we have a psychologist in the rift?

I have just seen these aswell.

Well done. I have been reading about NGC 581, but I didn't spot how well it fits the RR-Line.
I like it. :)

I'm on site for a survey. Here is the list of the systems in this group :

Ive been wondering. As you know system names have a format. Star Field {A}{A}-{A} {A}{N} [{N}]

where: {A} = Alpha character, {N} numeric, [] additional number (not always present).

Has anyone considered using the alpha and numerics to suggest where this rift is ? Is there a clue in the letters and numbers?

Kitty

I have been thinking about this a while, but no success with it so far.
If you find anything, please share :p

Whilst exploring and filling out my spread sheet, I have noticed some patterns with the lettering and the occasional word. E.G. EY-E or PH-D for the students.

So after reading the thread and watching the stream last night, believing that folks are in the general area, then there is a need to home in. So I wondered as Formidine pertains to Fear, Dread, Afraid, then perhaps there may be a way that these could be encoded in the letters/numbers sequence following the star field name.

Also, as a point in space needs 6 locations to be able to specify, perhaps some form of the alpha-numerics may contribute to those 6 locations which then may suggest a location.Perhaps all the systems that have black holes in maybe special and 6 of those systems may point to a rift.

Trying to think outside the box here.

In the beginning of the transmission she says:

"We are tens of thousands of lightyears from your homes in the core worlds."

Note that she didn't say "our" homes, not sure how I shall think about this. Just a verbal slip and nothing to see here, wrong translation on the summary text (did she really said "your" homes in the original text?), a deliberate typo to focus on something else special in this sentence or - my first thought - a hint about Salome's home actually far away from our homes (another galaxy?), which of course would raise a whole bunch of new questions. First and foremost: Are Lady Kahina and Salome actually the same person, as most of us seem to be so sure about...

Yes confirmed they are one in the same.

So it certainly looks like things are getting more interesting. But there is one assumption made on the thread just after the live stream YouTube video was linked to, and that is the instructions Salome' gave to Ed. She told him to safeguard his exploration data and to be careful who he sells it to. And as far as he (or we) know, it's just regular data that happens to be very important. But I think she added some of her own exploration data to his ship's computer, probably while everyone was distracted by the Children of Raxxla's dramatic landing.

Now of course there is no in-game mechanic for something like that, but Ed was told beforehand that something was going to happen then that follows the lore. And I think that whatever happens to Ed on his return trip to the Bubble, and who he sells his data to, will directly effect the story in the near future. Presumably Salome' still has her original survey data as a backup, but there is also no guarantee hers will be returned to inhabited space without incident.

So, what can we do about it? I suppose we can just wait and see what happens, but I think there are things we can do to help Ed make it back safely. If nothing else, we can try to figure out who the data should be sold to (but of course, that's Ed's decision in the end.)

I don't believe she was referring specifically to Ed but "you" in the general, unless hunt Ed, to save Ed or kill Ed is the intended community goal.

What I infer from Salome's message is that where exploration data over the next unknown amount of time is sold by everyone will affect the direction of the story line I'd guess up to the Engineers dropping. So not a matter of selling to the right faction or power but which gets the most overall.

With that in mind I really like the suggestion of selling on mass to Jacques because I'd bet that's a possibility that Fdev hasn't even considered and it'd be fun to throw a monkey wrench into the whole thing. They're like our Simon Cowell right?

So any one up for Rick Rollin it?
