A proposition for Exploreres

You mean you didn't just ice the poor chap and commandeer his ship instead? Ha missed yer chance with that one didn't ya? Or did the Anaconda still have enough fuel in it to put up a fight?

(And thanks for that I thought it was something like that but wanted to confirm it)

Well, my Hauler is precious! I won't let a Hauler go to waste for an everyday top notch exploration conda! My preciousssss hauler.

I have to admit it is a little off-putting flying through a system within the bubble and finding "unexplored" objects

I never said for free.
I just said they should sell us the data they collect.
Then let us use that data in our GalMaps.

Nothing was mentioned about free :)

I realise its Fdev. I was trying not to break the 4th wall... O well.

You remember when I said that the Universal Cartographics was just the middle man? There's a reason they don't sell us their data. Where do you think they got that money to pay for the data in the first place? From their benefactors, you can buy data inside the bubble. But most of the things outside the bubble is hands off. There's a lot of corporations and governments with their eyes on those systems and they don't need you snooping around in it and selling that information off to their competition!

Inst there giong to be some upgrades for the galmap and system maps in the next update.

But i agree that it would be fun to have newly discoverd systems shown in galnet or see the exploration data sold to the stations in the station bulletin board with the explorers name and its contribution.

So the Anaconda was still able to fight then, serves ya right. You'll get no pity from me! What are ya hauling in that hauler that makes it so special anyways? Painite?

For the part why the pay for the same data over and over again: Probably for confirmation reasons. In science for example you don't rely on a single result, you repeat the experiment (if possible) hundred or thousand times to make sure your results are correct. Maybe UC has the same politics?
While the 100th scan of a particular world might not be useful for the information it gives on the world, incentivising people to do it anyway allows UC to calibrate our results - and the minor variances of our own sensor suites - against existing known data, which makes the results they get for first discoveries or early confirmations more valuable.

Exploration is by far the "grindiest" way to make many credits.

I'll agree that a better GalMap would be nice, but I don't see how a boycott could bring FDev to prioritize the GalMap.

Though it's still not a reason to pay the full payout for the 10000th scan of a ELW. Should be reduced with everytime the planet is scanned. I personally like to imagine how my chara sits for weeks on some spacestations, haggling with some UC representative for hours about the price of Level 3 scans of ELWs and WWs.

Exploration, like so many other things in this game, is unfinished and won't stay in this state for ever. I'm sure that reworks of the Galmap are on FDevs list, too. So maybe you should have patience instead of a boycott :)

Wow.. The image of my pilot haggling with the UC rep has now stuck in my mind. I would love to get out of my ship and take a transit or just a buggy to the UC hq in the station and greet the rep. Your standings (temporary and permanent rank) would play a role in how the rep talked to/with you just like the Engineers. There you would negotiate a package price for your data cache, shake hands or do a Han Solo on him and leave, with or without the data.
There might even be black market brokers for data.. That would create some interesting gameplay mechanics.
Ummm... Nice....

Far more detailed than I had it in mind, but it would make for really great gameplay mechanics indeed :D

"Oh you're one of those 'Distant Worlds' pilots are you? No stress in your boots gathering all that data, run out of fuel or damage your ship have the bloody fuel rats right out there catering to your every boo-boo. The lot of us explorers aren't so lucky as you, we go out 5,000-60,000 Ly on a regular basis, if WE run out of fuel we're dead. Ship breaks down. We're dead. Misjump? Dead. Distant Worlds was nothing but a chance for a bunch of people wet behind the ears who were to afraid to go it alone. Look at you and that nice little patch, the rest of us deep space explorers don't get such a fancy thing as that!"

>>

She's not. Just like you and a lot of us other Rats, she's doing this on her own. We've been to beagle and beyond by ourselves too. And if needed, we go out everywhere to help lone explorers, just as i'm doing now for somebady that is (only) 8 kly out. I see what you're implying, but it certainly doesn't apply to Becks our the other fuel rats.

This also bugs me as well.

It might just be semantics but why can't there be a clear definition between something that hasn't been discovered and what is simply lacking from your nav computer's database.

Call what truly hasn't been discovered by anyone "unexplored" and things others have explored but is not on your nav computer call them by something else like "insufficient data" or something.

I do think it would be also nice to purchase said that that has been explored but is lacking on your computer :p

Maybe (maybe) even give a kickback to said first discoverer when someone purchases your data. Like say 1% or something it should add up I imagine.

I love this idea, there would be so much more motivation to explore, for that chance to win big, if you discovered a black hole or something, it might turn out that loads of people buy the data for that system, and the discoverer gets a hefty payout, like exploring at the moment is pretty predictable, you'll find a bunch of high metal contents. a few dozen water worlds, maybe an earth-like or two, but no "amazing discovery" that would equate to "winning the lottery" or whatever

I direct you to "The Missing", Raxxla and whatever lies beyond the Rift - there's lotteries plural to win
