Things in ED that make you scratch your head!

1. The Fer De Lance, aka tip of the spear, which arrives at the battle roughly 30% slower than most ships.

2. A ship named a Corvette, with a top boosting speed sub 300 m/s.

3. A SRV Hagar that can automatically repair your SRV, but, cannot refuel it.

Just some things that me scratch my head.

What are yours?

4. Where does my character go to the bathroom?

5. Why does Crab Nebula look like a lobster?

5.5 Why do I have to leave the party 5 seconds after my friendship drive is finally charged?

Aw, no love for the slow Corvette! ;)
* Tangent: I believe Corvettes in a naval sense are the smallest class of warships, and the Chevrolet Corvette was named after that naval class since they're the most maneuverable classes of warships. The 1953 Corvette was also, incidentally, not fast either. :D

If I am not mistaken, all Corvettes, nowadays, are sub 300m/s, btw... just saying. :p

8ish. Why when Allied to a faction and neutral to another in the same station, the Allied factions, almost always offer less for similar missions than the factions you are neutral to?

1) Trade ships are significantly worse than any other ship in almost all aspects. Worse shields, worse hard-points, worse speed, worse internals and worse manoeuvrability. Their only benefit is a very minor cost reduction in purchase and operating, overall savings probably about 10,000Cr per mil so totally negligible considering a multipurpose ship will help you fight/escape which can cost significantly more in repairs if you use T type ships.

2) Emergency life support can only be refreshed in stations, why can't I repair my life support and then output enough to increase my reserve tank back to 100%, even add it as a synthesis materials thing if you want...

Fer De lance is named after a snake not a spear tip afaik.

No matter how many ships there are, an Anaconda can only be masslocked by Anaconda or above. On Xbox it used to be so that 2 Pythons could mass lock an Anaconda which was cool and especialy helpful for piracy now it's even harder to catch those Anacondas or what have you.

Also sig.

I'm going to make a wild guess here that fer-de-lance means spear tip, in America that particular snake is called the lancehead. But yes primarily named after the snake.

I just threw it in google a few months ago when I was thinking of names for my ships and found the first result was this. (In case anyone cares the name for FDL ended up being Váli - Norse god of revenge)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bothrops_asper

Given we have the Sidewinder/Asp/Adder/Viper/Anaconda etc I didn't question it :p
Yes it also does mean spear tip though in French I believe although the snake name correlation points towards my answer... It's also a sports car in Saints Row according to the wonder that is wikipedia.

Scanners which require weapons fire controls to operate rather than having dedicate controls for them, and there can only be two fire buttons. Can you imagine if this had been the case on the Enterprise?

Data: Captain, sensors show a cloaked ship ahead of us.
Piquard: Mister Worf, scan them for warrants and illegal cargo
Worf: Aye Captain... I just need to select the correct firegroup first *beep*beep*
Piquard: Quickly Mister Worf, before they move out of range
Worf: I'm trying captain, but this ship's design is very... *beep* frustrating *beep*.
Worf: Scanning now sir *ZAP* uhhh...
Piquard: Oh... Mister Worf... *facepalm*

Yep, it's a snake reference, not an archaic french weapon (though tip of the lance does make it sound cool) :)

True, but i think he was meaning the exact translation from French :D (am half frog)

If not already quoted in this thread...

Why is the Cobra MkIV, an 'extension' of the MkIII classic and iconic ship, ~2.5 times the cost of a MkIII and still balanced WRT better equipping but completely underrated speed?

Stick it at 10M Cr, give it a LITTLE less speed with what it's current load out - and I'd buy one. Not touching it until then ;)

The range of all weapons are basically exactly the same.

Larger caliber or longer barrels don't have more range or velocity

basically.

Why do all ships have to fight at 500meters.

Theoretically projectile weapons should all have infinite range, and energy weapons significant (but not infinite due to dispersal) range. It's been clipped down to "ww2 fighter plane" type ranges for playability... and so you don't get wiped out by a random rail blast from a firefight several lightseconds away.
