Smugglers Path - across the abyss with 33ly, direct south from Beagle Point. No Jumponium.

5Smugglers Path - across the abyss with 33ly, direct south from Beagle Point.

(to find this thread again type !smugglers in discord on the Elite Dangrous explorers server called "DWE - Fleetcom" and the bot will present you the link)

I found another "33-route" across the abyss.[woah] I dubbed it Smugglers Path because in times it felt like you just have to know the spots where you can travel through.

Smugglers Path is a route across the abyss that never uses more than 33ly-jumps direct south from Beagle Point.

The biggest jump and also the ONLY jump that was NOT preplotted by blue lines was 32.93ly.
So with a ship capable of this jump range you won't need jumponium.:p
Fully fueled my ASP jumps 32.64ly.

It starts at -1200 west and ends at -200 west of the 0-meridian and south of the abyss.
On the way I passed 36 waterworlds and 4 earthlikes

In the northern part I had to take some detours around areas of low star density but most of the times it was straight forward, always following the blue lines for about a 100lys at a time.

One time I hit a mayor gap that couldn't be crossed with 33lys, forcing me to deviate east.

Following is a list of my waypoints recorded by EDDiscovery.

Consider my waypoints as a proof-of-concepts. That means there are many other variants and improvements possible. Also you don't have to jump to every system in the list of course. Just follow my route roughly.

FEEDBACK FROM OTHER COMMANDERS:

*CMDR DrKaii did Smuggler's Path in an ASP with 31,2ly jumprange. He just needed Jumponium once. Although he often had to jump with a partially drained fueltank he still consideres this route faster than going down the arm (see post #12 for details).
* By suggestion of CMDR VerticalBlank, inserted potential jump hazard.
*CMDR Scoopy Doopy found another jump hazard in part 6 (kicked of his fuel scoop).
[up]CMDR Hi-Ban published a shortcut for ships with a minimum jump range of 33.2ly. Saving 44 jumps!
See post #26 for details. Going south it leads from Syneayoi FC-D D12-2 to Syneayoi JH-U C16-0 in only 16 jumps (original route 60 jumps).
Note: The map in her/his post is south-oriented, so Sol is on top!
[up]CMDR Gunthar came across an ELW close to the route (Syneayoi HN-W c1-1, see post #43)

I parted the list into six segments for better overview.

I only did this route once. So there still could be errors in the list. If you find any or if you found a significant route shortcut feel free to contact me.
I hope it was worth the three days in the abyss. ;-)

Right on! [up]

I've done a similar thing but closer to the zero meridian and I used a few jumponium jumps, it proves that there are several routes across for lesser craft than anacondas. I'll have to document mine when I've added all the jump distances. This was in an Asp with a jump range of 32.5ish.

IO

Hi Iron Orchid

Lol, yes I saw you on the galaxy map, yesterday if I remember right.
I actually think after DWE many pilots will cross the abyss in this region.
But also many will use jumponium.
So I start wondering why the hell I collected all the J1, J2 and J3 when I didn't use it anyway...

Karaya

Thanks for posting this. +rep. I've been trying to cross about 3k north of here and it has been slow going. About 1700ly left after two days of frustration trying not to use jumponium.

Should'a stuck to I-33 (M-33 for you Brits) :)

Anyone done this with a 31 jump range? How many jumps were over 31?

I can look tonight at my route - I know I used a J2 and about 4 J1s and a couple of half tanks (these were about 33-34ish) - the route is in EDSM but I haven't added the distances between the jumps yet.

This is a great route! I'm currently fumbling around the abyss at galactic zero seeing if I can find a way through. I was just about to give up and start the long back-track at around the 60k mark, but I'm actually not too far from your section 6, so I may try and work my way across to smugglers path. Thanks for publishing this, it's a life saver.

FYI did this route with a 31.2ly range. Only one jump required jumponium (although plenty required jumping on fumes), although with such a short jump range I probably got significantly more jumps than you. Didn't count but was about 300.

So possibly a false economy, as it's only about 4 kylies, and those 300 jumps were not easy jumps - only being able to plot a few at a time, and lots of trial and error - but I think probably did save time overall.

Glad it's over! I did use jumponium a few times just to speed things up.

o7

Finally managed to dig my way out of the massive dead end I had found myself in. At one point I could see a star that was on this route 100ly away from me. There was 1 star in between, 75.54 ly away from my position. I had 1 premium jumponium left, and wasn't 100% sure I could reach the 'safe path' after that jump.

I held my breath and made the jump - the longest I have ever done - and amazingly the next jump was just 34ly, easily under my 35ly max range. In my EDSM notes I have named that system 'Scal's leap'.

Just gotten to a point where I can plot all the way to southern edge of the abyss and safety - all thanks to the smugglers path. Thanks again for the timely publication of this route :)

Terrific, wish I had the patience and organisation to know where I have been, never mind know where I am going next.

Just got through part one and half way through part two. This is looking good! If it carries on like this it will be a breeze :) I have not stuck to the route particularly but am flying alongside making sure Smugglers Path is always in sight :)

I will admit to feeling a little guilty tagging an Ammonia World you appear to have missed right next to a Water World you didn't. Sorry about that but as it looked like an ice world I can see why it was easy to miss.

But maybe you are doing it to be generous as I found another Ammonia World next to a water world you have discovered :( Very sporting of you, I must say!

Hi Scoopy Doopy,

I was only looking for waterworlds and earthlikes...
I was a bit in a hurry as a vacation was coming up in RL and I wanted to get to the bubble and sell the data before that. Also I wanted to get the route finished before the main bulk of the DWE explorers began to make their way home.
Feel free to claim everything you can find. I'm not flying back to scan something I might have missed ;)
Did around 70M credits anyway...

I even left out some waterworlds later on. GO 4 IT! [hotas]

Cheese, Karaya

:) Actually, I have started bucky balling through large chunks of the route though do occasionally drift off route for a spell. I like this route though and I hope to complete it today if the ED servers ever come back on line.

Two things to note though: The 92.9 jump is actually 92.93 and that can make the difference between success or failure. My ship does 92.9 so was surprised it couldn't make the jump until I got there to see the extra 0.03. I was able to jump with reduced fuel of course but for some, 92.9 could be the absolute limit.

Secondly, the possible jump hazard was not at all hazardous even though the stars are fairly close together. A couple of system later though was a closer shave. Perhaps an indicator that there are a couple of possible jump hazard in the area may be helpful.

Anyway, thanks again for the route, I am enjoying flying in your wake :)

that gives me the jitters being that far away i would be so nervous looking for scoopable stars every minute

Try it :) You might like it. There are very few un-scoopable stars on this route (at least so far)
