If there was an active escape pod system in place, I'd definitely play iron man mode.

I do think "dead is dead" BUT "ship destroyed" shouldn't always mean dead. What I mean is, if you eject in time, pass a dice roll (which might include concentrations of allied ships nearby who might rescue you) and if you can afford the insurance, you'd survive. With no guarantees, but where ship destruction is theoretically survivable .. I'd play it.

Yes I would play, as Elite is no longer dangerous.
BUT sadly will be trashed by PVP and other groups of players who just like being a pain to everyone else.

personally no and voted as such

but that being said i absolutely think it should exist as an option after all its only a match making filter if you wanted it.

I voted "No" because I already play "Aluminum Man" (don't use insurance) in Open.

I'd rather they implement a 1T module called "Manual Escape Capsule" - upon destruction of the ship, it ejects and streaks away from the debris at a reasonable pace. After it escapes mass lock/disruption, it jumps to the nearest facility that stocks Sidewinders, and I resume play with credits/reputation intact.

Of course, if someone scoops it on the way, I restart completely (until they add a "Slavery Simulation" update to the game :) )

I doubt that will happen either.

I'd play Ironman right now if it were possible. The rules explained in the DDA should apply though (being able to eject and lose the ship, but remain alive with the rest of the assets).

Not sure if I would forfeit my current character to play Ironman, but I'd definitely consider doing so if a second Ironman character would not be possible.

As a hardcore ArmA / DayZ player, yes 100% I would if supported. However this mode need to be as in the DDA and it need additional hardcore features.

1. Medical treatment of your avatar, ageing of your avatar, hair growth on the body (like in witcher 3)
2. FPS mechanics like in Arma / dayZ (one shot or wounding can take you down if not protected.)
3. Temperture influence of your avatar, shake if freezing, heat accumulation if too hot.
4. need to to consume some kind of nutrition to stay a live.

Ironman mode should be hardcore, otherwise there is no point in doing it.

No, because dying will actually mean something. If you have a good outfitted ship you would not risk it by doing PvP, you could end up dead too :D

.... in which case, there'd need to be:

5. Requirement to excrete waste generated by consumption of 4. ;)

Not really, this is not Star Citizen, however staying alive is the point here :D

Yes to Ironman. No to it being setup that way. The existing modes should stay as they are, no changes to the timeline or BGS. Ironman should be a forth option with a separate character save. That and the AI needs to be much tougher than it is otherwise it's pointless anyway cause if you don't see other players you'll more than likely never die. Then I'm all for it. Never gonna happen but hey it's hypothetical

No, unless murder of a non-wanted in a system was actually considered murder, would make you wanted, and would get you a permanent kill-on-sight from all stations in the system. Moreover, if it was an Federation or Empire system, that KoS order would extend to ALL Fed or Emp stations. In other words, if the game has permadeath, the game would have a punishment corresponding to unjustly delivering permadeath. The reason? Unless you have this, you basically have a griefer's paradise.

Not too sure we need an Ironman mode now. I tried that with my second account and never died. I'd be for it but there needs to be far more danger than there is now.

Edit: Ninja'd. Nice Sis :p

Frontier has added a new mode to the game - Hardcore Iron Man. All players start in a Sidewinder on equal footing (of course). Dead is dead. The whole PvP vs PvE issue is straightened out (somehow), almost all bugs are gone, and many new features have been added.

They've also added a fresh, separate (starting in 3300, with some adjustments) BGS for this server. Let's assume that the playerbase has grown exponentially to this point due to all the new amazing, ground-breaking, wonderful features Frontier has added, meaning Open Play and Iron Man have roughly equal numbers.

<snip>Credits don't flow like water, and other resources are equally difficult to get. Stepping up to a new ship, even an Eagle, is a major milestone. Many, if not all, of the features you want are in the game but fairly balanced (again, magic handwavium because this is a hypothetical). NPC AI is basically Skynet with MoM at the helm. It's incredibly difficult but incredibly rewarding - not for the faint of heart. When you start the game, you get a warning stating "Do not play this mode if you don't want to be punished. You have been warned"

Edit: I'll add that your Hardcore Ironman save is entirely separate from your Open Play save and the two are inconsequential to each other.

Second edit: Solo/Group play is still present. The choice of mode to play is yours.

What if I told you...this is the 10-year plan ;)

Let’s make things a little bit more challenging: Why not if you die you lose not only your assets, but your account in ED. It could be named *Iron balls* mode:D

I agree with the crime and punishment design, however if we use DayZ as an example, those players who have a lot of gear, only grief players who have nothing. In ED you will have a ship, this is one huge difference. Ships that can cost 100 millions of Cr. You can greif someone in a sidewinder, however that will probably not end well. So to greif people you will need a good outfitted ship. Today, if you have a gazillion Cr. death mean nothing, only a temporary visit to the rebuy screen. However if you die in Ironman mode, you lose it all. Think about that for a moment.

No.

I don't get the point of the ironman mode apart for the pure ego ("Yeah i'm playing in ironman mode").

You can do the same already : when you die, you wipe your savegame. Nothing to modify.

No offense here, just a personnal opinion. [smile]

If you'd read the topic, you'd have seen that that doesnt work in Open. Solo, sure. But for those who want multiplayer Ironman you need something extra.
